Senior Data Modeller

We have a great opportunity within our Digital Technology team for a Senior Data Modeller.

The Senior Data Modeller will develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models utilising methodologies and industry-standard models such as Teradata and FSLDM, DAMA, KIMBAL, and Vault. You will work closely with data architects, data engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality data delivery and integrity across our systems.

What will you be doing?

  • Collaborate with Senior Data Architect to manage and document data flows, ensuring data integrity.
  • Work with Product Managers, Solution Architects, Developers, and Analysts to implement production processes.
  • Be a DAMA certified data management professional or working towards certification.
  • Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models using industry-standard methodologies such as Normalisation, Dimensional Modelling (e.g., Kimball), and Vault Modelling.
  • Have knowledge of industry-standard models such as Teradata and FSLDM.
  • Maintain clear and organised documentation of data-related processes, procedures, and workflows.
  • Integrate models with modern cloud tech stacks using Azure tools and practices to ensure efficient data delivery.
  • Populate and manage the Purview Data Catalogue.
  • Be familiar with concepts on reference and master data management, data cleansing, and data quality.
  • Establish and maintain quality checks to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.
  • Adhere to data security and privacy policies to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in data management.
  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

What are we looking for?

Essential for the role:

Knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant computing, mathematics, or science-based discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Experience

  • Proven track record of improving practices and delivering high-quality data solutions.
  • Experience with data modelling tools such as Erwin, and methodologies (DAMA, Kimball, Vault).

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling.
  • Proficiency in data integration and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Python, or similar.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data security, and compliance best practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based architectures and modern tech stacks, particularly Azure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Beneficial to have:

Knowledge

  • DAMA certified data management professional.
  • AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals.
  • AI-900: Microsoft AI Fundamentals.
  • DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of observability principles and tools.

Experience

  • Do they need a sporting or event background or will another industry background be sufficient?
  • Familiarity with data orchestration tools within Azure, such as Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience with different database architectures (Lakehouse, Relational, Document Store).

Technical Skills

  • Project management skills and experience working in an agile environment.
  • Proficiency in reporting and insights tools such as Power BI.

Our Organisation

The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. We currently work within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
