Job Summary:

The Sacramento Kings seek an Associate Basketball Data Engineer to contribute to developing cutting-edge basketball analytics systems. This role will support the Kings’ analytics group by maintaining, enhancing, and optimizing the internal database and website. The responsibilities will shift with the basketball calendar but will generally involve building, testing, and improving data infrastructure to provide insights into basketball-related questions. Collaboration with the entire analytics group and other parts of the front office is a key aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines for the analytics department

  • Write and manage unit and other data quality tests to ensure reliability

  • Perform advanced statistical analysis on large datasets to assist Basketball Operations in decision-making

  • Manage and maintain the internal database and other proprietary assets

  • Conduct ad-hoc research projects as needed, presenting findings clearly and concisely

  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security through best practices

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience building APIs and integrating them into production-level processes

  • Strong experience with relational databases and SQL

  • Familiarity with the current state of basketball research and statistics, with a preference for those who engage with the basketball analytics community

  • Knowledge of and experience working with basketball, preferably within an analytical or operational setting

  • Proficiency with R statistical software, including package management, preferred

  • Experience using Git version control system required

  • Ability to work independently, manage tight deadlines, and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders (programmers, analysts, outside data vendors, front office personnel)

  • Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required by the basketball calendar

  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Sacramento and work on-site at the Kings Basketball offices

  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS

Compensation:

The offer range for this full-time, exempt role is $75,000 - $85,000. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered. Total compensation & offer package will include the following:
