Community Programs Manager

Position Summary:

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is seeking an energetic individual to lead the execution of the introductory and skills programming at the Highmark Hunt Armory. The historic Highmark Hunt Armory Ice Rink operates from October to March and this is a seasonal part-time position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include (But Are Not Limited to):

  • Execute Learn to Skate, Learn to Play and Continue to Play program schedule, registration and customer service
  • Be present for all programs, acting as lead on-ice instructor/coach and/or track registrant attendance
    • Monitor the activities of skaters in the arena to comply with safety standards
  • Schedule and train Learn to Skate instructors based on the Learn to Skate USA curriculum and Learn to Play coaches based on USA Hockey’s station-based skills development
  • Prepare weekly program customer communication and on-ice practice plans
  • Support execution of Try Hockey for Free events and organize volunteers
  • Provide on-ice instruction and administrative support as Penguins liaison to seasonal ice rink at Hunt Armory
  • Analyze key performance indicators (participation, attendance and retention) for all programming
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director, Youth Hockey

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Sports Management or Education-related field is preferred
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude, reliable, strong work ethic and ability to multitask
  • Must have strong instructional skills with ability to create a fun and safe environment for kids
  • Relevant experience managing youth related skating or hockey programming at the recreational level preferred
  • Comfortable interacting with the community and public
  • Must be comfortable instructing on-ice
  • Previous experience as youth skating instructor and/or hockey coach required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communications (written and oral) and organization skills
  • Background knowledge and understanding of Learn to Skate USA levels and USA Hockey’s long-term athlete development principles is a benefit
  • Position is contingent on ability to obtain Learn to Skate USA and USA Hockey coaching certification and SafeSport clearance ·
