Next Gen Stats Researcher

The NFL's Next Gen Stats team is seeking an experienced researcher to help develop storylines using Next Gen Stats data to support our various platforms at NFL Media including NFL Network, NFL.com and NFL Social Media. Candidate will work embedded within the NFL Research team while closely collaborating with the Next Gen Stats team. The Next Gen Stats Researcher will work as a vital liaison between Next Gen Stats and NFL content teams. The ideal candidate will have a background in research, statistics and analytics while being an avid football fan with extensive knowledge of the players and game, and someone who feels comfortable mining data for stories. Candidates must be self-motivated and work well under tight deadlines.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for developing storylines based on own research within large data sets

  • Responsible for developing ideas for various forms of content for studio production shows and helps see that the ideas are executed as graphics, segments, pieces and more.

  • Provides routine weekly research notes to internal production staff to help inform of best Next Gen Stats storylines

  • Develops original storylines and datapoints that provide statistical analysis of events, news stories and topical issues.

  • Recognize and anticipate league and team trends, applying appropriate statistics to create content

  • Assist production team with Next Gen Stats data research tool

  • Initiate development in football analytics using Next Gen Stats

  • Ensures accuracy of data before distribution

Required Education and Experience

  • 1-3 years professional experience working with statistics or covering and analyzing sports

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Must have experience building analysis using football statistics

  • Must excel collaborating in a team environment

  • Must be technologically savvy, with strong command of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

  • Must have strong familiarity with digital and social platforms

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in sports media

  • Previous work experience working for or covering the NFL

  • Coding skills are advantageous, but not necessary

  • Thorough knowledge of football media landscape, including emerging platforms and competing properties

Other Key Attributes / Characteristics

  • Strong attention to detail skills are required

Salary / Pay Range

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that the NFL believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job. The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • Maximum 30 hours a week

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends (Sundays)
