Job Title: Media Relations Coordinator

Department: Media Relations/Communications

Job Reports To: Director of Media Relations

Status: Exempt

The Media Relations Coordinator will assist with the organizationā€™s communications outreach, media relations and media services functions. This includes media messaging for the Nashville Predators, Bridgestone Arena and SS&E, LLC. This position will work closely with members of the hockey operations, marketing and broadcasting departments to help create and drive public messaging, ensuring its alignment with the Nashville Predatorsā€™ brand.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Collaborate with department staff members to deliver the organizationā€™s key talking points, messages and communications to local and national news outlets, media members and bloggers.
  • Serve as point person for production of media information deliverables, including, but not limited to, game notes, game previews, prospect reports, team yearbook and media guides.
  • Service local, visiting and national media members on practice and game days, ensuring a professional and compliant workplace environment in team and arena media areas, such as the press box.
  • As needed, serve as a liaison between the organizationā€™s hockey operations members and members of the home, visiting and national media and broadcast rightsholders.
  • Write and distribute press releases in a timely and proper manner.
  • Monitor media coverage of the Predators, Bridgestone Arena and SS&E ventures by compiling daily media clips.
  • Participate in and contribute to company meetings that relate to the department.
  • Help maintain the Media Relations Departmentā€™s statistical and information databases.
  • Assist with media relations efforts for hockey communications, business operations, community relations, Ford Ice Centers, F&M Bank Arena, SS&E, youth hockey and fan development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelorā€™s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a similar field.
  • Previous work experience (<2 years) in communications, media relations, journalism or similar preferred (relevant internship experience will be considered).
  • Knowledge of hockey, the National Hockey League and the Nashville Predators is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to develop relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable speaking in public to large groups, media, and/or VIPs.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to make difficult and quick decisions.
  • Team player who operates well in a dynamic, all hands-on deck environment.
  • Able to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite products, mainly InDesign, is strongly preferred.
  • Possess a valid Tennessee driverā€™s license, a suitable driving history, be insurable by employerā€™s insurance carrier and have reliable transportation.
  • As a condition of employment, qualified applicant will be subject to a background check, including criminal history check, previous employment verification and character references.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Physical activities require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, including sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, balancing and handling of materials.
  • Excellent speaking and listening skills, requiring the perception of speech.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time and climb stairs.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse conditions in outside positions when assigned.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 20 lbs.
