Digital Media Associate

🇺🇸 Golden Valley, MN, USA
Part Time
0+ years exp.
US$16 – US$18 per hour

Position:

The Digital Media Associate is part of the Marketing & Communications department for Minnesota United FC (MNUFC), a sports business located in the Twins Cities area of Minnesota and a member of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top tier soccer league in North America.

Job Description:

If your personality type could best be described as the middle part on the Venn diagram where Ted Lasso quotes intersect with Pedro Pascal memes and hard-hitting soccer analysis, boy, have we got a role for you. We’re looking for a creative, passionate writer / content creator / soccer know-it-all to serve as our next Digital Media Associate — a Swiss-Army-knife role within the Digital Team that will do everything from write website articles to capture behind-the-scenes content to come up with ridiculous memes a respectable digital media team would never put on the internet.

This is a part-time seasonal role based in Golden Valley, MN reporting to the Vice President, Digital Media.

Here’s what you’ll do:

60% writing

  • Write all sorts of interesting articles for MNUFC.com — everything from game recaps to opponent breakdowns to in-depth novellas about PK’s origin story.
  • Craft marketing copy people actually want to read, to be used in things like websites, emails, skywriting, maybe even those giant signs people spin on street corners.
  • Do all sorts of journalistic legwork, like researching opponents, attending training sessions, and asking the hard-hitting questions like, “Would you rather be a giant hamster or a tiny elephant?”
  • Come up with headlines that are better than the ones ChatGPT wrote when we asked it for Loon puns.

30% Social Media

  • Cover team events, training sessions, and games, where you’ll take pictures, record videos, ask players weird questions for TikTok, etc.
  • Come up with cool things we can do on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, Discord or whatever new thing the youths are using these days.
  • Explain to your Millennial boss why it’s actually kinda cringe when they use Gen-Z slang in their social captions.
  • Use the skills you acquired during that one J-Term graphic design course you took to shoddily Photoshop a biscuit into a photo with a Minnesota United player because it’s National Biscuit Day or something ridiculous like that.

10% Other

  • Run out to Best Buy to pick up a Micro SD card because your boss forgot the other one in their backpack and the podcast is starting in ten minutes.
  • Other things like that.

You Might Be Right for this Role if you:

  • Are good at putting words in an order that makes people laugh and/or cry and/or feel all tingly inside.
  • Use the Oxford comma in your writing because it is clearly the right way to do things and also because Benjamin Dreyer advocated for it in his 2019 classic Dreyer’s English, which you recognize as the utmost authority on all things grammar and style.
  • Can artfully break down how the false nine's movement created an overload in the half-space, disrupting the opposition's defensive shape and allowing the regista to distribute the ball with ease. But in English this time.
  • Find yourself scrolling through TikTok and thinking, “How can I use the trending audio in this video of a pygmy marmoset riding a raccoon apply to Minnesota United?”
  • Are a famous social media influencer (unlikely, but worth a shot).
  • Have recently graduated with, or are currently pursuing, a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Want to carve out a career that consists of writing words and making memes and doing other silly things for the coolest soccer team in the whole wide world.

Here’s what we’ll do for you:

  • Pay you in real cash money. Or Doge Coin if you prefer.
  • Just kidding. HR said we can’t actually pay you in Doge Coin.
  • Give you a chance to develop your skills in a real-world setting where the stakes are high, the fans are passionate, and all your friends will actually see what you do.
  • Give you access to mentors and senior professionals who will coach you, challenge you, and help you develop your skill set.
  • Help you build up a portfolio of highly-visible work.
  • Help you break into the one of the coolest industries there is.
