Data Quality Engineer America's Cup (Fixed Term Contract - Maternity Cover)
Brackley
At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Grand Prix winner George Russell.
Whether working in our Operations, Technical, Race or Business Support functions, we are all in and aspire to build the greatest team in the history of our sport.
Every individual plays their part. No stone is left unturned in the chase for every tenth of a second. The history of our sport is long and rich, and we are continuing our journey with renewed effort year on year. Record books remember the names of a few, but history is written by the many.
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team are joining forces with INEOS Britannia, as the Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup competition. This project brings together two highly complementary spheres of high-performance, high-technology engineering and sporting challenge. To strengthen our team, we are looking for additional engineers with a background in top-level competitive engineering such as Formula One, America’s Cup or equivalent to join our technical group.
The Data Quality Engineer will play a key role in improving our ability to learn from accurate and reliable measurements, with a focus on Data Quality. The role will help to build inherent trust in the data produced through yacht testing and racing and that data’s ability to help close the validation loop.
About the Role:
Working with other members of the Fluids, Performance and Test and Validation Team to analyse test data (on and off-water). You will improve experimental testing procedures and measurement capabilities to increase our learning from these measurements.
Recognise opportunities to improve data quality and raise them with Test and Validation Lead for discussion and action.
Building strong cross-functional relationships and technical respect
Demonstrate through your work, the importance of Data Quality and experimental design.
Train and advise designers on good practice when designing with data and learning in mind.
Working with relevant stakeholders on the development of automated means to highlight inconsistencies in the data, and to the output from our simulations, such that this can be used to create ‘Data faults’.
Work to improve sensor/experiment ‘up time’, with the long-term aim that every experiment we do gathers reliable and accurate data first time
Investigate and evaluate new technologies which could be used to improve our measurements.
To be successful you will have:
You have a degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics. Having a PhD is a bonus.
You are skilled in data analysis.
You have experience with modern programming languages and MATLAB.
You have knowledge of electronics and new technologies.
You are a hands-on engineer with a good grounding in the basic principles and are inherently detail focused.
You are self-motivated with the ability to both take initiative and to work autonomously.
You are tenacious, curious, and creative.
Benefits:
Our riverside campus is powered by 100% renewably sourced energy and features an on-site gym and exercise studio, subsidised restaurant and on-site parking with EV chargers available.
