The Indiana Mad Ants Head Athletic Trainer & Physical Therapist is a member of the sports medicine services team and is responsible for providing professional physical therapy and athletic training care for the injuries and illnesses of the Indiana Mad Ants (and at times, the Indiana Pacers) players. The primary responsibilities include the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and monitoring of all injuries.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate the day-to-day clinical operations of the sports medicine services team in accordance with the policies, procedures, and organizational structure of the Indiana Mad Ants.
- Under the direction of the Indiana Pacers Team Physician, provide clinical care based on the best available clinical evidence to the Indiana Pacers and Mad Ants players including but not limited to initial response, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and prevention of injuries.
- Under the direction of the Indiana Pacers Team Physician, assist in identifying individual clinical treatment and rehabilitation strategies, goals, prognosis, and timelines based on the best clinical evidence.
- Under the direction of the Indiana Pacers Team Physician, coordinate clinical services with the Indiana Mad Ants Assistant Athletic Trainer and other members of the Indiana Mad Ants sports medicine services team in a coordinated manner to improve each player’s health status, physical condition, and performance.
- Under the direction of the Indiana Pacers Team Physician, manage all medical related needs of the Indiana Mad Ants team during games, practices, workout sessions, and other on-court activities.
- Communicate regularly with the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Mad Ants Team Physicians, Indiana Pacers SVP of Sports Medicine & Performance / Head Athletic Trainer, and other members of the sports medicine services team.
- Comply with and enforce compliance of the documentation processes set forth in the Indiana Pacers Sports Medicine Services Strategic Overview.
- Communicate with the coaching staff, management team, and player agents (when requested by the management team) regarding player health status.
- Coordinate the scheduling of medical appointments as directed by the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Mad Ants Team Physicians.
- Assist in the assessment and clinical management of athletes during the Indiana Pacers off-season, training camp, pre-draft and free-agent workouts, rookie/free-agent camp, and summer league.
- Prepare reports to NBA and NBAGL of?ces regarding player injuries and medication usage as directed by NBA and NBAGL operations standards.
- Develop and manage the Indiana Mad Ants sports medicine services department budget.
- Maintain state licensure and certi?cation as a physical therapist and athletic trainer.
- Travel with the Indiana Mad Ants during their preseason, regular season, and playoff schedule.
- Perform visits as needed to members of the Indiana Pacers roster during the offseason.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree required.
- Must be qualified to obtain both an athletic trainer and physical therapist license in the state of Indiana.
- Previous relevant experience in athletic training and/or physical therapy is required.
- Must be a NATA certified athletic trainer.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain annual or biannual CPR/AED training as required by the state of Indiana, the NBA, and NATA.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions and reports. This position should be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from players, coaches, and front office staff.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word and general data entry. Ability to learn new systems and adapt to new technology.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Knowledge to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as making change, analyzing costs, figuring statistics, and making area and liquid measurements.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams. Ability to interpret directions.
