JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Academy Head Coach
Location: Segra Field/INova Performance Center/Audi Field/other locations
Department: Academy
Reports to: Academy Director & Director of Player Development

JOB SUMMARY
The Academy Head Coach will manage all team training sessions and matches for one of D.C. United’s academy teams in accordance with the academy’s curriculum, periodization, objectives, and values. They will work in conjunction with other head coaches, goalkeeper coach, performance coach and athletic trainer to maximize the potential of each player, and the efficiency of each session. The Academy Head Coach will be at all of their team’s training sessions, matches, and tournaments; and will assist with other academy teams when necessary. They are also expected to review all film and relevant statistics to give constant, specific and accurate feedback to each player on the status of their development. The head coach may be asked to periodically check in with the families of players as well. The priority of the Academy Head Coach will be to develop players so that they are ready to compete at the next age group/level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute all team sessions in conjunction with head coaches, assistant coaches, performance coach, athletic trainer, club curriculum, periodization, and values (4/5 sessions per week)
  • Coach Individual Development Plan (IDP) sessions – for specific academy players (up to 5 sessions per week)
  • Coach team on match days (up to 2 matches per week)
  • Manage all matches and tournaments, including off-field activities and travel
  • Attend in person staff/league meetings as directed
  • Log on to virtual staff/league meetings as directed
  • Keep in constant communication with academy players and their families when necessary/directed
  • Keep in constant communication with Academy Director, Director of Coaching and the rest of the staff as necessary
  • Work with Scouting Director to evaluate trialists, develop depth chart and create rosters
  • Coach talent identification training sessions
  • Help with club logistics when necessary
  • Manage club projects as directed
  • Utilize/manage the development of the assistant coaches
  • Represent D.C. United with top class appearance & professionalism

QUALIFICATIONS

  • On field expertise: professional/college/high level club/academy coaching experience
  • USSF “B” license preferred
  • Exceptional management skills: both of groups and individuals
  • Ability to plan sessions in coordination with professional coaching staff
  • Knowledge of MLS/DMV soccer landscape preferred
  • Exceptional organization, communication & presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Available to work flexible hours including nights, weekends & holidays
