Job Title: Coordinator, Minor League Athletic Training
Reports To: Senior Director, Player Development
Job Purpose: Oversee the Minor League Athletic Training staff, collaborate with the Major League staff & the Rehab/Physical Therapy Department to promote the health and safety of all Cincinnati Reds players.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Minor League athletic training staff. Mentor and support the growth of each AT & oversee the department’s staff review process.
  • Work closely with the Major League Athletic Training staff and the Rehab/Physical Therapy Department to establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration.
  • Oversee and approve short-term return-to-play programs. Work directly with Player Development personnel (strength and conditioning, physical therapy, nutrition, mental skills, sports science, wellness & uniformed staff) to ensure players are healthy and ready to return to play.
  • Track all in-season and off-season injuries and maintain complete and accurate medical records in MLB EMR system. Develop effective processes to communicate injuries, timelines, etc.
  • Travel to Cincinnati, the Dominican Republic, and minor league affiliates as needed to oversee the execution of the Reds Athletic Training expectations.
  • Work with the Director of Amateur Scouting and the Senior Director of Player Development during the planning and execution of the First-Year Player Draft, including medical reviews, combined participation, and post-draft physicals.
  • Oversight and delegation of the maintenance and operation of athletic training room facilities, specifically in Goodyear, Arizona, and the Minor League affiliates.
  • Create and monitor training room rules and guidelines for operation, including modernization of equipment, neatness, sanitation, and professionalism.
  • Help to establish and carry out the Reds philosophies as they pertain to the athletic training room.
    • Hold staff and players accountable to these philosophies.
    • Educate players and help them to build habits and routines.
  • Contribute meaningful insights to the player plan process.
  • Provide provisional medical field coverage of games and practices as schedule dictates.
  • Ensure staff executes the proper field set-up and preparation to ensure a safe playing environment for the health and well-being of players and staff.
  • Communicate effectively to relay pertinent information on time to the Senior Director, Player Development, Major League Head Athletic Trainer, and team physicians when appropriate.
  • Management of Minor League athletic training budgets and staff salaries.
  • Maintain all up-to-date training techniques and participate in all necessary meetings.
  • Communicate and execute the contents of all MLB memos.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Spring Training & end-of-year physicals.
  • Seek ways to grow the department through internships, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Leadership of a department, unit, or primary function and/or direct supervision over administrative & professional employees and ability to provide functional guidance to support staff.
  • Independent judgment and multitasking ability are required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work long, flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be trustworthy and comfortable with managing sensitive information, including compliance with HIPAA.
  • High interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with various departments, seniority levels, and personalities.
  • Knowledge of various computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Experience, Education, and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport and Health Science related field (i.e. Athletic Training).
  • Master's Degree in Sport and Health Science related field (i.e. Athletic Training) or Doctorate of Physical Therapy strongly preferred.
  • NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer required.
  • Maintain applicable state licensures and certifications in good standing to practice as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Willingness to seek out additional courses for continuing education to advance personal and staff knowledge to benefit players.
  • Previous work/educational experiences that have prepared the candidate for management of Athletic Trainers.

Requirements:

  • Spoken and written fluency in English. Spanish-speaking preferred.
  • Ability to travel within the United States and the Dominican Republic.
  • Employee will have outdoor responsibilities where the employee will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
  • The Reds are open to this position being remote or based in Goodyear, AZ.
