Para Interpreter (British Sign Language) - Casual Contract

The FA are looking for interpreters to provide communication support to individuals from our deaf men's and women's senior squads and where appropriate within our talent pathways. Support may include attendance at one-day training camps, fixtures, and major tournaments (including international events).

This is a casual contract that will run until 31st July 2025, with a maximum of 65 days of work anticipated.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Provide general BSL communication support to players and staff at events including matches, camps, talent days and trips.
  • Support the delivery of coaching sessions, matches, interventions for injured players, general sport psychology discussions, team meetings, player learning and development activities and 1:1 conversation with staff.
  • Use a variety of modes to support players such as BSL (British Sign Language), SSE (Sign Supported English) and lip speaking where appropriate.
  • Treat all information communicated to players or staff during 1:1 meeting's with strictest confidence unless authorised to share.
  • Lead communication support for players and staff in the following situations:
  • Media work with internal and external agencies.
  • Player medical examinations with a doctor particularly when there may be a referral to hospital or prescription of medicines.
  • Accompanying players for medical treatment off site.
  • Supporting sport psychology discussions which include discussions about mental health or safeguarding issues.
  • Attending formal discussions such as disciplinary meetings.
  • Attending meetings related to safeguarding issues.
  • Supporting presentations to deaf members of staff or players when specified.
  • Follow The FA's safeguarding policies.
  • Actively promote the leadership agenda for the diversity and inclusion programmes specifically designed for our elite teams, contributing to the overall FA Equality, Diversity and Inclusion plan.
  • Execute additional tasks as required by the Senior Technical Performance Manager to meet FA Group changing priorities.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
  • As part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.

What Will You Need?

Essential for the role:

  • A degree or level 6 award in both British Sign Language and interpreting.
  • 5 GCSEs grade C or above or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in sports.
  • Experience of working in a sports environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate working with and supporting numerous internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
  • Full clean driving licence

Beneficial to have:

  • Knowledge of Disability or Para Football.
  • Interpretation or communication support experience of Disability or Para Football teams.
  • Experience of working within elite Para Sport environments/teams.
