Job Summary

This employee is responsible for managing the delivery of software applications and enterprise solutions to support business unit objectives and operations. The Manager is the primary point of contact with business unit leaders and users to determine critical needs and develop effective solutions. The Manager will be a caretaker of the Piratesโ€™ North Star and Compass and will be proactive in seeking out ways to exemplify them in his/her day-to-day work.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Oversee the implementation, operation, integration and support of enterprise business applications required to provide services to business units. Work with IT staff and application champions from each department to identify opportunities to improve software employment.
  • Act as a solutions architect, guiding technical design decisions for enterprise software implementations that meet technical and business requirements. Ensure systems mesh with the enterprise environment and take advantage of enterprise resources.
  • Guide the development and maintenance of custom applications for business needs. Oversee requirements definition, design specification, and software testing for business software development. Coordinate with vendors for contracted development work when required.
  • Build strong relationships with all departments to ensure software demands are anticipated and applications are leveraged fully.
  • Assess software systems, applications, and processes to facilitate a larger Information Technology (IT) strategy.
  • Drive initiatives to integrate enterprise applications and automate data flow between systems. Coordinate integration efforts of IT staff, vendor resources, and consultants when appropriate.
  • Work with business units and software vendors to conduct user training on enterprise business systems. Make recommendations and develop content on required training.
  • Guide the Enterprise Systems Analyst in providing tier 2 technical and analytical support on enterprise software. Provide tier 3 support and coordinate with vendors to escalate and resolve ongoing problems. Track status of outstanding issues and requests and provide regular reports on the status of business systems.
  • Work closely with Director - IT Operations, Director - IT Services, and other IT staff to diagnose applications issues related to network, hardware, and/or operating systems.
  • Under the direction of the VP - Technology and the Pirates legal department, assist in the negotiation and management of enterprise software contracts.

Secondary:

  • Remain abreast of activities in Information Systems, business applications, and software development. Provides guidance and consultation on applications and related services to other departments, which may include reviewing system documentation, feasibility, design, testing, and implementation.
  • Ensure effective data management practices are followed, including designing, implementing, and monitoring proper database maintenance plans.
  • Provide input to the VP - Technology in developing a strategic plan for enterprise systems. Provide recommendations on creating a cohesive direction that will support the organization's goals and objective and meet the need for future growth and development.
  • Assist the VP - Technology in developing and managing the IT department budget. Anticipate and make recommendations on future enterprise software budget requirements. Identify ways to reduce costs while continuing to deliver services effectively.
