Summary/Objective


The Houston Astros Baseball Operations Department is seeking a hard-working individual to join our Advance Scouting team for the 2025 season!

As the Advance Scouting Apprentice, you will work closely with the Manager of Major League Video and the rest of the team to help prepare our Major League coaches and players to take on upcoming opponents. Blending video, data, and first-hand evaluations, you will help compile reports that are used by staff and players. Your work will directly impact the wins and losses of our Major League team. You will also have an opportunity to gain exposure to other areas of the department throughout the year and assist in additional Baseball Operations projects.

The position will be based in Houston, TX.

Examples of things you will do:

  • Produce advance scouting reports for Major League players and coaches
  • Analyze and organize video playlists for Major League coaching staff and players
  • Conduct research to improve team strategy and performance
  • Develop visualizations and other mechanisms for communicating information to coaches, players, and other baseball operations personnel
  • Collaborate with other departments on special projects as assigned

  • Curiosity, aptitude, and a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team on complex projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to meet challenging deadlines

Work Environment

This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Prolonged periods of time on one’s feet may also be expected. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel:

Travel might be expected in this role, potentially during Spring Training and in-season.
