JOB SUMMARY: The Dallas Stars are seeking an intern to join our growing Business Intelligence department in for the Summer of 2024. The Business Intelligence Intern will mainly support initiatives in the Ticket Sales & Service, Sponsorship, and Marketing departments. We are looking for someone driven who is dependable and takes initiative. Learning and improving BI related skills will be an essential function of the position. The position will have a direct hand in helping influence Dallas Stars’ ability to organize, analyze, and act on current and future data to keep the business on the cutting edge.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support business intelligence, ticketing/pricing, marketing, and strategic projects
  • Build and present data visualizations, dashboards, and presentations for use across the business
  • Review and update current reporting dashboards in Tableau and the SQL queries that support them
  • Automate or streamline existing processes where applicable through coding, use of software, or other innovative means
  • Assist with organizing, cleaning, and managing leads and other data in our Microsoft Dynamics CRM
  • Support the creation and analysis of fan and season ticket member surveys

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continue to advance Stars analytical capabilities and identify new revenue-generating and/or fan-creating opportunities
  • Collaborate with Sponsorship and Marketing departments to analyze current market for the Dallas Stars
  • Conduct independent research on specific business topics and emerging technological areas
  • Evaluate current technological infrastructure and identify areas where technology could be enhanced, added, or replaced to create efficiencies
  • Identify potential data sources to integrate into data warehouse

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Sports Analytics, or related field
  • Proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel (Pivot Tables, Vlookup, etc.)
  • Strongly prefer experience in one or more statistical/computing languages (R or Python specifically, among others)
  • Previous analytics experience (or related internships), ideally within a sports organization
  • Experience with data visualization (Tableau, Tableau Server, Looker, PowerBI) strongly preferred
  • Prefer experience with data warehouses, queries, and ETL tools (SSMS, SQL, Alteryx, KNIME)
  • Prefer experience with Ticketmaster/Archtics

Physical Demands and Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects and office tools, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is exposed to an office environment, with noise levels usually moderate.
