Overview

Columbus Crew is searching for a Coordinator, Education & Homestay within our player development spaces. The primary responsibility will be coordinating and monitoring the daily operations of the Homestay Program and assisting Academy Players within the club with specific educational needs. This position will be a point of contact and support for families and players in regard to homestay and tutoring subject needs. This role will also be vital piece to the operations and delivery of the homestay and education programming.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating the Academy Homestay program โ€“ including family recruiting and vetting, matching of athletes to families, house visits, monthly athlete and family check ins, etc.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Host Families in the Homestay program. Work to create a calendar of events and community engagement opportunities for all stake holders.
  • Lead coordinating the Academy Transportation program (specifically with homestay players).
  • Support Crew School programming throughout the academic year. This will include scheduling, providing a positive and enriching learning environment and facilitating learning and educational support for players.
  • Identify and understand the subjects and specific learning objectives collective and individual players need support.
  • Create and manage a tutoring calendar for student athletes with high needs. Work to create a long-term tutoring plan and create relationship with school subject experts.
  • Have the ability to tutor and have a basic understanding of multiple subjects including โ€“ Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Per Calculus, English, Biology, Chemistry, History, and Spanish (preferred).
  • Deliver weekly in person or virtual tutoring of Academy players who have specific subject needs. Track and monitor player educational progress with the addition of tutoring support.
  • Collaborate with families and academic institutions to ensure athletes are evaluated and receiving their education within a learning environment suited to their specific needs.
  • Provide additional support to players/parents as needed โ€“ educational, tutoring, college applications, etc.
  • Understand various virtual learning platforms and have the ability to advise.
  • Assist Manager, Education โ€“ providing monitoring, communication, and options for support as needed for each athlete. Develop positive relationships with the academic institutions attended by boys in the Academy.
  • Assist in tracking and providing support for Academy players Community Service hours.
  • Work within a budget as designated by the Manager, Academy Operations
  • Assist with other Homestay and Education tasks as requested by the Manager, Academy Operations

Requirements

  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree in the field of education, social work, or a related field
  • Experience working within a school or an education setting.
  • A passion for elite athletics and supporting the athlete through their pathway.
  • Fluency / conversational Spanish is preferred. A second language would be desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Driven work ethic and ability to work with minimal functional guidance.
  • Collaborative, high level of personal values and integrity, industrious and ambitious individual
  • There will be a requirement to work nights, weekends, holidays and travel will be consistent throughout the role
