Assistant, On-Ice Youth Hockey

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in the country with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports. In September 2022, MSE acquired the regional sports network, then-called NBC Sports Washington and newly rebranded as Monumental Sports Network. Monumental Sports Network now holds the exclusive local television media rights to Capitals’, Wizards’, and Mystics’ games. The network is both a linear channel and a digital operation. Prior to acquiring the linear platform, the digital platform was launched by MSE in 2016, as the first-of-its-kind regional sports network for digital, mobile, and streaming platforms. Those linear and digital platforms are now combined and join Caps Radio, Wizards Radio, MSE Outdoor and Monumental Productions for a full suite of six media enterprises.

In addition to Capital One Arena – a venue which hosts 3M+ visitors across over 250 events annually, MSE also manages MedStar Capitals Iceplex (training facility for the Capitals), MedStar Health Performance Center (training facility for the Wizards, Mystics, and Go-Go) and EagleBank Arena (a 12,000+ live event venue on George Mason University’s campus).

In July 2020, MSE partnered with William Hill (subsequently acquired by Caesars Entertainment) to open the first ever in-arena sportsbook in North America, now called Caesars Sportsbook. The space now also boasts a destination culinary experience, Guy Fieri’s DC Kitchen + Bar.

MSE opened “District E powered by Ticketmaster” in the spring of 2023, a flagship esports and entertainment venue. This 14,000-square-foot live-event theater offers a 365-day-a-year series of immersive experiences in esports, music, culinary excellence, event programming, and community events.

Position Overview: The Washington Capitals Youth Hockey Development On-Ice Assistant will be responsible for assisting in all day-to-day operations of the department, focusing on on-ice grassroots programs, all programs within the ALL CAPS ALL HER platform, and digital media and data retention growth.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in day-to-day communications and administrative operations surrounding the Future Caps Learn to Play program. Including, but not limited to, League Apps integration/site building, rink contract outreach and execution, program marketing and promotions, parent and player communication and registration troubleshooting, rink payments/financial forecasting, and alumni/ambassador schedules and payments.
• Visit sessions at participating rinks on a weekly/bi-weekly basis as a Program Ambassador.
• Prepare all practice plans and coach on-ice programs within the ALL CAPS ALL HER platform including Girls Learn to Play, Adult Learn to Play, and all-girls camps/clinics.
• Serve as event-day lead for Girls Try Hockey for Free and ALL CAPS ALL HER programs.
• Assist in digital media content creation and storytelling across @CapsYouthHockey channels (X, Instagram, Facebook).
• Collaborate with all members of the team to aggregate social media data into digestible formats using Sprout Social and Canva.
• Consolidate Youth Hockey Development calendar monthly and send out new Caps Youth Hockey newsletter.
• Work with Business Intelligence to integrate newsletter with Youth Hockey Development Database.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Previous ice hockey playing experience, coaching experience, and skating proficiency required.
• Ability to learn quickly and motivation to self-teach.
• Proficiency across digital media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook). Experience with Sprout Social a plus, but not required.
• Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Organized, thorough, and detail oriented.
• Basic level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Positive approach and strong team spirit.
• Reliable transportation and housing.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed based on event schedule.
