The Town FC, the 2nd team to the San Jose Earthquakes, has an opening for an experienced Goalkeeper Coach. The Goalkeeper Coach for Town FC is responsible for providing goalkeeping training, individual development of goalkeepers, opposition analysis, and supporting all aspects of player development within the teams coaching staff. The role involves on-field as well as off-field responsibilities.
Goalkeeper job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Create a Goalkeeper specific Training/Performance Plan that includes the Technical, Tactical & Physical periodization necessary to develop top GK’s in keeping with the Club’s philosophy.
- Work closely with the head coach and 1st team goalkeeper coach to integrate goalkeeping methodology into the overall team strategy.
- Provide training reports, with video, to share with Head Coach and Coaching staff.
- Lead Academy Goalkeeper Staff, assisting in assessing, placing, scheduling and training Goalkeeper Coaches.
- Ensure Academy GK staff are aligned with the training philosophy and technical framework of the club.
- Create & implement Individual Development Plans (IDP’s) and communicate with a multi-disciplinary perspective to support the holistic development of Goalkeepers.
- Schedule individual meetings with Goalkeepers in pre-season to discuss and align on their respective IDP’s.
- Schedule progress meetings with each player, reference and edit their respective IDP’s based on performance.
- Work with Head Coach to create GK specific pre-game objectives to include in team presentation prior to every game.
- Assist Team Head Coaches and staff to perform other coaching roles in training and on match day.
- Complete detailed post-game reports after every game including video clips focusing on objectives and overall performance of Goalkeepers to present weekly to Team Goalkeeper Coaches and Team Staff.
- Lead discussions of Goalkeepers to be retained and released at the end of their contracts or when deemed appropriate.
- Support the talent identification & recruitment strategy for Goalkeepers and develop Coaches as part of a wider strategy both internally and externally.
- Design and implement specialized training programs tailored to the needs of each goalkeeper
- Monitor the physical condition and performance of goalkeepers during training and matches
- Provide technical advice to goalkeepers, such as positioning, footwork, and timing
- Develop communication skills between goalkeepers and the rest of the team, especially the defensive line.
- Assist in scouting and recruiting potential goalkeeping talent for the team
- Ensure that all safety and health standards are adhered to during training and matches.
Additional responsibilities:
- Support head coach with opposition team analysis for MLS Next Pro games.
- Providing video and data support per request from head coach.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of a USSF National B license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years direct experience as Goalkeeper Coach at professional level.
- Possess and maintain a current and valid driver’s license and maintain legally required employment eligibility.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills particularly in pressure situations.
- Personal integrity and the ability to invoke trust and respect from others.
- Evidence of successful player development.
- Experience of developing and implementing innovative ideas and putting them into practice
- Must have a passion for working in a high performing team environment.
- High degree of personal initiative and strong organizational and time-management skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through relevant courses and conferences.
- Complete any mandatory qualifications on an ongoing basis as required by associated governing bodies.
- Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred but not required.
Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000
