The Pittsburgh Penguins is seeking a highly experienced and strategically-minded Director of Compensation & Benefits to oversee the company’s entire remuneration and benefits policies.

In this position, the Director will report to top management and collaborate with department heads to formulate strategy, implement plans, and ensure that the Penguins are an employer of choice.

The Director must have knowledge of the latest global trends in remuneration, and implement the plans across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine long-term strategy for benefits and continuously evaluate all benefits plans to ensure they are cost effective, competitive, and meet the needs of both the Organization and employees. Create and manage the annual benefit budget.
  • Manage all Federal, state, and local compliance, filings, reports, and audits related to the administration of employee benefit programs, including ERISA. Ensure all plan documents and Summary Plan Descriptions are complete and updated, 5500 Filings are filed timely and accurately, discrimination testing has been conducted, and oversee plan audits. Operate as Organization’s Club HIPAA Officer.
  • Develop strategic direction of the company’s compensation and benefit plans and recommend new programs or changes to existing programs to meet Company objectives.
  • Collaborating with all department heads to drive continuous improvement
  • Managing the annual salary review process
  • Direct and oversee all compensation and benefits activities, programs and special projects in compliance with Federal Regulations and Company guidelines.
  • Develop strategic direction of the company’s compensation and benefit plans and recommend new programs or changes to existing programs to meet Company objectives.
  • Direct compensation processes, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, and analysis and ensure compensation policy is aligned with the Mercer methodology.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with outside vendors that assist in the development and administration of the compensation and benefits programs.
  • Lead and oversee all benefit and compensation communication efforts for new, current and prospective employees.
  • Monitor communication effectiveness and develop new programs or alternate methods to improve employee understanding and participation.
  • Work with internal and external resources to develop and administer effective communication efforts and educational programs for employee benefits programs and compensation initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 - 9 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (HR, Business Administration, or Finance)
  • Non-degree considered if 12+ years of related experience along with a high school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of employee compensation and benefit programs
  • Articulate and present complex insurance benefits information and compensation information in an easy-to-understand manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and other benefits regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for reporting and analytical purposes, along with the demonstrated proficiency in other business-related software applications and online processes.
  • Experience with writing, editing and maintaining benefits Plan Documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, and vendor agreements.
  • Online enrollment experience.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation is preferred.
  • Experience with ADP a plus.
