POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Director of Baseball Communications plays a critical role in managing and enhancing the professional baseball team's public relations efforts, media relations, and overall communication strategies. This individual will work closely with the Vice President of Public Relations and Communications to strategize and execute day-to-day communications operations, ensuring the team’s voice is consistent, engaging, and impactful across all platforms. The Assistant Director will support media engagement, content creation, press releases, player and staff communication, and work collaboratively with departments across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media Relations & Outreach:

  • Serve as a point of contact for local, regional, and national media members.
  • Represent the Baseball Communications department on road trips during Spring Training and the regular season
  • Oversee all baseball information efforts, including media guides, publications, game notes, press releases, and media advisories
  • Strategically pitch compelling story ideas that promote the team and its players, coaches, and staff.
  • Organize and execute media events, including press conferences, pre- and post-game availability, and media days.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sports journalists, broadcasters, and other media professionals.

Communications Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other departments (sales, partnerships, marketing, operations, digital, community relations) to ensure consistent messaging and effective internal communication.
  • Work with the creative, marking and social media digital team to strategize on engaging content that aligns with the team’s brand and messaging.
  • Contribute to the organization’s marketing, broadcasting, and creative services efforts

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience working for a professional sports team, including working directly with athletes, coaches and staff
  • 3+ years of experience serving as the primary Communications representative during road trips
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate on organizational initiatives
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with baseball statistical websites
  • Working experience with Adobe InDesign; experience with Adobe Photoshop is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Spanish fluency is preferred
