The Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide expert technical leadership and support to the Technology Operations Team by leveraging advanced knowledge and practical experience in managing and evolving the full suite of Microsoft 365 and cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure. The role will also ensure the seamless operation and availability of on-premises networking, storage, and firewall solutions. As the IT business lead, the role will drive the adoption of emerging technologies, manage key business applications, and uphold risk and security best practices, especially in high-pressure scenarios, including Match Days.


The Role:

  • Provide key support to cover Match Day events at Old Trafford.
  • Play a lead role in managing, supporting and maintaining Microsoft cloud environment (Azure, M365).
  • Support and maintain the current server platforms (hardware & software).
  • Support and maintain the current IP and network infrastructure & hardware.
  • Support and maintain the existing telecommunications platform.
  • Support the Head of Technology Operations in building, maintaining, and supporting the technical landscape.
  • Support the Head of Technology Operations in IT and business projects where needed.
  • Proven experience of working within a high-pressured IT support environment.
  • Maintain the IT infrastructure and asset documentation.
  • Assist the IT Helpdesk teams when needed.


The Person:

  • Extensive experience in managing Azure Workplace environments
  • Proficient in managing Microsoft Endpoint Manager (formerly Intune) for device management and security.
  • Skilled in configuring and managing Azure Active Directory (AAD) and implementing role-based access control (RBAC) for secure access management.
  • Experience with managing compliance policies, device enrolment, and application deployment within an Azure environment.
  • Expertise in integrating and managing mobile devices and ensuring endpoint security using Azure solutions.
  • Setup and configuration of Microsoft 365 environment and applications including SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Office 365 apps.
  • Setting up and managing Enterprise Applications within Azure.
  • Applying and enhancing Azure security features.
  • Proactive monitoring and reporting of Azure performance and capabilities.
  • Configuring, building, and deploying standard desktop build images via Microsoft Autopilot.
  • Cloud Platform Management. Manage and optimise the day-to-day operations of the Azure and AWS environments, ensuring high availability and performance of all cloud-based services. Oversee the deployment, management, and support of cloud infrastructure resources, including virtual machines, storage, databases, and networking components.
  • Security and Compliance. Implement and maintain robust security measures on Azure and AWS platforms, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal policies. Regularly audit cloud environments to identify and mitigate potential security risks, ensuring data protection and regulatory compliance.
  • Cost Management and Optimisation. Monitor and manage cloud costs, optimising resource usage to ensure the organisation is getting the best value from its cloud investments. Implement cost-saving measures such as rightsizing, auto-scaling, and reserved instances to reduce overall cloud expenditure.
  • Monitoring and Performance Tuning. Set up and manage monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor and AWS CloudWatch to track the performance and health of cloud resources. Conduct performance tuning and optimisation to ensure the cloud infrastructure operates efficiently and effectively.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience supporting web-based applications, IIS, and SQL Server.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of technologies.
  • Good understanding of MacOS, MacOS Server, iOS devices.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Operating Systems.
  • Experience working with LAN and WAN technology (including TCP/IP, DNS, VOIP, Firewalls, switches).
  • Experience of maintaining security standards.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • Ability to create and maintain Technical Documentation.
