JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for directing all activities of the Accounting Department. The Controller is responsible for ensuring financial policies are enforced, internal controls are in place, accounting practices are streamlined, and the fiscal records are maintained. The position involves supervision over general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budgetary controls.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department. Responsible for mentoring staff to ensure company goals are met and staff has career progression
- Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting processes including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets
- Oversee monthly and yearly close for Dallas Sports & Entertainment and subsidiaries, Texas Stars Limited Partnership, and Dallas Stars, Texas Stars, and StarCenter Foundations
- Provide status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data through the preparation of financial reports including game reporting; monthly departmental reports; monthly corporate package; quarterly bank reports as well as contributing to NHL reporting and quarterly reports to ownership
- Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the annual budget and monthly forecasts
- Manage audit engagements and ensure timely completion of audited financial statements
- Monitor tax compliance and provide tax information to outside CPA firm for tax preparation
- Drive process improvement initiatives within the Accounting Department
- Participate in design/redesign of financial and operational reports to a high quality of clarity, consistency and quality
- Build solid working relationships with department leaders to implement new policies, procedures and internal controls
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred
- 7+ years of experience in financial role
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- NetSuite experience preferred
