Academy Video Analyst

Overview

Columbus Crew is searching for an experienced, energetic and passionate individual for the position of Academy Video Analyst. This individual will facilitate and manage all video and data related analysis production for the Academy. They will be responsible for working with the different analytics functions within the Academy and they will work closely with the Academy management and coaching staff. Within this role, the individual should be prepared to create and execute product at a professional level, work with athlete database technology and platforms, conduct technical video analysis of both training and games, translate analysis to performance on the field, providing insight through both statistical and video analysis, create meaningful relationships with colleagues and athletes and have a deep passion for the game.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage video recording and uploading of all Crew Academy training sessions and games using both fixed camera (Spideo) and mobile camera (flying of drone).
  • Assist Academy coaching staff in the construction of pre-game and post-game presentations and visual aids for the team preparation.
  • Assist Academy coaching staff in scouting needs for opponents.
  • Organize and help facilitate individual training and game clips for Academy players.
  • Manage and organize the team platform for uploading and sharing videos.
  • Key liaison with administration to all video production vendors and providers.
  • Assist with the definition and implementation of organization-wide team and player performance metrics that align with club “One Club” playing philosophy and player profiles.
  • Conduct performance analysis of Academy matches and track Academy KPI’s.
  • Oversee the effective warehousing and surfacing of performance data across the Academy, via both automated and ad-hoc processes.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge and experience with performance and video analysis platforms such as Metrica, Sportscode, TeamXStream, CoachPaint, Spiideo, Angles, Catapult Match Tracker, Catapult Focus and other similar products
  • Ability to fly a drone, work and manage a video camera and operate permanent video recording systems (such as Pixellot, Spiideo, etc)
  • Functional experience in scripting language, such as Python, R, SQL, or Javascript would be ideal or a desire to learn
  • Knowledge of best practices in data visualization is a plus
  • Any soccer specific coaching licenses would be viewed as an asset.
  • Past experience as a coach or analyst
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others
  • Bilingual is preferable
  • Driven work ethic and ability to work with minimal functional guidance. Approach their role with sound decision making
  • There will be a requirement to work nights, weekends, holidays and travel will be consistent throughout the role
