Job Title: Applied Sports Science Associate
Reports To: Manager, Applied Sports Science
FLSA: Full-time hourly
Location: Goodyear, AZ
Job Purpose: The Applied Sports Science Associate will work as part of the Health and Performance staff to facilitate Applied Sports Science initiatives at the Reds Player Development Complex to aid in the development and optimization of player health and performance. Sports Science, as defined in this instance, is the application of scientific methods and principles to improve player development, health, and performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Aid with the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data from the established athlete monitoring program to help deliver actionable insights to stakeholders across multiple departments.
- Manage all aspects of the athlete monitoring program for the Reds ACL team in Goodyear.
- Integrate with AZ Rehab staff to assess, monitor, and interpret athlete monitoring data during the rehabilitation and return-to-play processes.
- Assist Applied Sports Science Department with managing player health and performance data, including tasks such as data entry, cleaning, analysis, and preparing written and visual reports.
- Administer and oversee testing protocols to evaluate physical and physiological responses to training and competition, ensuring proper implementation and accuracy.
- Support individualized player development plans by integrating performance data, assessments, and applied research insights.
- Evaluate the validity, reliability, feasibility of current and emerging technologies and testing protocols, and support onboarding of adopted technologies as needed.
- Conduct exploratory, descriptive, and statistical analyses on existing and new datasets to uncover insights and support decision-making.
- Perform literature and research reviews on topics pertinent to Health & Performance and Player Development initiatives, staying informed on cutting-edge research, technology, and methods in sports science to continuously improve processes and protocols.
- Maintain and manage the inventory of sports science equipment to ensure readiness and functionality.
- Contribute to research projects and other Applied Sports Science initiatives, adapting to team needs and organizational priorities.
- Ensure ethical management of player performance data, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with organization and legal standards.

- Creativity, critical thinking, and strong analytical skills to interpret and apply complex information effectively.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and efficiently plan, prioritize, and manage a dynamic workload.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to work long, flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Proficiency in using sports science technology (e.g., GPS, force plates, dynamometry, timing gates, accelerometer/IMU/LPT, wearables, etc.).
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, displaying the ability to convey information effectively through visual, written, digital, and verbal form to diverse stakeholders across Baseball Operations.
- Experience in designing and delivering educational content tailored to staff and players, focusing on effective communication and engagement.
- Competence in various software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python, with demonstrated expertise in data management, reporting, and visualization, is preferred.
- Foundational understanding of applied research methods and statistical analysis is preferred.
Experience, Education, and Licensure:
- Enrolled in or completed undergraduate or graduate degree programs in sport or exercise science, kinesiology, or related field.
- CSCS and/or CPSS are a plus.
- > 1 year experience working in sports environments with athletes.
Requirements:
- Spoken and written fluency in English.
- Spanish language ability desired.
- Willing to relocate. The position is based in Goodyear, AZ, at the Reds Player Development Complex.
