Job Title: Affiliate Performance Coach
Reports To: Manager of Applied Sports Science, Senior Director of Player Development
FLSA: Seasonal Salary; Exempt
Location: Louisville, KY; Chattanooga, TN; Dayton, OH; or Daytona, FL; Assignments made during Spring Training 2025
Job Purpose: The Affiliate Performance Coach is to provide assistance to the field staff and health and performance staff at the Cincinnati Reds minor league affiliates in a multitude of areas, pending each candidate’s skill set and desired career development pathway within professional baseball.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling and execution of data collection for Health & Performance, Sports Science, and other baseball initiatives
  • Facilitate communication between Player Development, Health & Performance, and Affiliate coaching staffs to promote interdisciplinary player support and development
  • Collaboration with Player Development to prepare and distribute player and staff reports including:
    • Facilitation of meetings with staff and players to discuss player progress on an ongoing basis
    • Support and integration of player plans during the season
    • Preparation of reports for Front Office, Player Development, Health & Performance, Applied Sports Science, and Affiliate staff.
  • Assistance in the execution of organization-wide research studies or programs at the affiliate level
  • Additional Responsibilities could include, based on skill set:
    • Organize the travel itineraries for each road trip of the regular season and playoffs (if applicable)
    • Performance of administrative duties for club, including player travel, housing, per diem, HR, MLB and baseball operations paperwork, and other team expenses
    • Assistance with building data reports, dashboards, and visualizations
    • Assistance with staff game coverage on an as-needed basis to complete maintenance routines (including range of motion and recovery exercises) during game times
    • Assistance with strength coach-led warmups and conditioning sessions
    • Assistance with on-field pre-game work, including:
      • On-field pre-game support for coaching staff (cages, BP, machines, etc.)
      • Technology and other field setup
      • Fungos, taking throws and shagging
  • Assistance with video and/or pitch tracking personnel on an as-needed basis, including game preparation and production of advanced scouting documents
  • Assistance with physician appointment transportation, training room, and travel preparation
  • Assistance with disseminating data-driven insights to relevant stakeholders at the affiliate

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Independent judgment and the ability to multitask are required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work long, flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be trustworthy and comfortable with managing sensitive information.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of departments, seniority levels, and personalities are required.
  • Knowledge of various computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with Database querying (e.g., SQL) and statistical software (e.g., R, Python) a plus.

Experience, Education, and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience playing college and/or professional baseball preferred.

Requirements:

  • Spoken and written fluency in English.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to travel within the United States and internationally.
  • Willing to relocate. Position would require relocation to an affiliate for the minor league season.
