Position: Staff Accountant I - Atlanta Braves

Reports To: Senior Accountant – Atlanta Braves

Company Overview: The Atlanta Braves are seeking passionate, driven individuals to join the Front Office of the longest continuously operating franchise in Major League Baseball. The Braves Front Office has innovative, diverse individuals, who share the passion of Braves baseball and are excited to uphold the highest standards of excellence while supporting The Battery Atlanta. As a Front Office employee, you will be working with a first-of-its kind Major League Baseball Park with a mixed-use development and community. Position Overview: General ledger accounting professional to manage accounting duties and day-to-day accounts receivable and revenue functions, including invoice creation, securing payments by verifying and posting receipts, resolving discrepancies, and making bank deposits.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare basic/standard journal entries, including recurring journal entries and month end accruals
  • Perform monthly balance sheet and customer account reconciliations (reconcile outstanding issues such as short payments, aged credits/invoices, unapplied payments, etc.)
  • Maintain general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts
  • Work closely with multiple department leaders on their financial results
  • Assist with analytical review of financial results and understand factors driving variances
  • Prepare and send invoices to customers, following the parameters of their contracts
  • Record customer payments by recording cash, checks and credit card transactions
  • Record customer payments by verifying and entering transactions from lock box
  • Verify validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information from sales departments, event operations, and from customers;
  • Resolve collections by examining customer payment plans, payment history; coordinating contact with sales and legal departments
  • Provide account reconciliations, statements, invoice copies with backup to customers and business partners upon request
  • Set-up and maintain customer accounts based on payment and contact information
  • Publish monthly accounts receivable reports and reconcile accounts to the general ledger
  • Contributing to the development and review of process documentation and internal controls
  • Ensure responsibilities are completed within agreed upon time frame/deadlines
  • Follow proper internal audit guidelines
  • Provide support for annual external audits
  • Actively supports and contributes to the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusiveness
  • Other Ad Hoc requests from the business or finance leaders
  • Perform other duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • BS or BBA in accounting required
  • CPA or CPA track not required, but highly preferred
  • At least twelve months experience in a similar role
  • Experience in US GAAP and SOX required
  • Customer service orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (primarily Excel)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage expectations
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others, in order to meet deadlines
