The Assistant Groundskeeper assists with operations and management of the playing surface and gameday staff. The objective of this role is to meet or exceed the level of playing field quality set forth by the MLB’s governing body, Atlanta Braves and conforms to the needs of the players/ coaching staff.


Adequate knowledge of maintaining a baseball playing surface to MLB standards and regulations. Application of materials and methods used in maintaining a professional playing surface. The operation of irrigation systems. Supervising of full time seasonal and gameday staff.


  • Total playing surface maintenance, including cutting, game ready preparation, complete fertilization application and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and supplies/materials to maintain the playing surface and adjacent landscapes.
  • Baseball Specific: Manages infield skin, mound and home plate areas, grass to skin transition.
  • Should be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Job requires running, pulling and lifting heavy material at times.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • High School diploma or equivalent to 2 years of trade school
  • Ability to manage, supervise and train seasonal staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity and understanding of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management and operations of sports fields and facilities (including, but not limited to employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations);
  • Work non-traditional hours, including baseball season and stadium special events.
  • Knowledge of warm season grasses wear and replacement, zoned irrigation, tarp deployment and weather preparation procedures.
  • An understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures and an ability to work effectively and relate well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • The candidate must pass a drug test and criminal and credit background checks.



To show on time for work. Complete tasks assigned thoroughly with attention to detail and within time constraint if applicable.


Establish and maintains an open line of communication throughout the grounds department.


While also working cohesively with other departments as needed for Atlanta Braves games, field projects and extra events


Leads work crews to complete daily tasks. Shows initiative in seeking out better ways to improve the department through work efficiency.


Uses past experiences within the industry during decision making processes regarding field maintenance, employee management and general troubleshooting.


Has the ability to adjust and perform all tasks assigned under changing weather patterns, event scheduling, cultural practices to the playing surface.


Approaches the job with a willingness to grow and learn new methods of field maintenance, people management.
