Academy Player Welfare Officer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Academy Welfare Officer will be primarily responsible for managing the club’s Residency program, including but not limited to proctoring daily school periods, vetting, and liaising with homestay guardians, and managing training requirements. The successful candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, attentiveness to evolving protocol, and experience with youth players and families. The role will report directly to the Academy Director and have regular interaction with Academy staff and key club stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

RESIDENCY PROGRAM

  • Solicit Host Families for NSC Academy and Huntsville City FC
  • Contact marketing to update solicitation flyer/letter.
  • Manage current and former host families.
  • Evaluate host families to house Academy players.
  • Introductory meeting via phone call
    • Introductions, discuss house rules and player expectations, food preferences or allergies, transportation, etc.
  • Coordinate background checks and Safesport training for host families
  • Maintain constant communication with host families and players via phone calls, home visits, etc.
  • Administer all host family contracts.
  • Set up and coordinate host family incentives (e.g monthly stipends, match day tickets) working with appropriate departments to complete requests
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current Host Families Touch base with host families midway through fall and spring season to check in on how things are going.
  • In April, check with host families to see if they will return next year.

SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine which online schools we will partner with for upcoming season.
  • Set up a meeting with parents to discuss online school options.
  • Determine school calendar alongside the soccer season.
  • Create rules and expectations for the classroom. Set consequences.
  • Monitor students grades.
  • Create chore list.
  • Set up lunch schedule.
  • Order classroom supplies.
  • Weekly school communication to students and families with updates.
  • Manage daily classroom activities.
    • Order lunch and snacks
    • Monitor and track players’ academic progress
    • Organize fun activities such as trivia and spirit weeks
    • Student of the week
    • Presentations
    • Celebrate birthdays and holidays.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Must possess good judgment and sensitivity relating to students of various backgrounds
  • Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and with sensitivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced organzation
  • Experience in education, sports, or related area
  • Experience with residential life, summer camps, or secondary school
  • Experience in counseling, crisis response, and mediation
  • Experience in a high-pressure, academic/performance setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel to all away matches and other trips with the team
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
