Reports to: Chief Operating Officer, Canucks Sports & Entertainment

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President, eSports, is responsible for leading and implementing the eSports strategic plan for Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) eSports franchises, the Vancouver Titans and Seattle Surge.

Accountabilities include leading the eSports department responsible for league relations, team operations, marketing and content, events, community relations, and supporting revenue initiatives in sponsorships and retail. The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering the P&L through KPIs identified in team competition, revenue initiatives, global and local fan growth, and fan engagement levels in social and broadcast channels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership

  • Provide senior leadership to the operation and management of the Vancouver Titans and Seattle Surge eSports teams
  • Provide leadership and guidance to GMs and the Teams Ops Director on recruitment, contracts, and team management and development
  • Ensure coaches and players have health and wellness programs to facilitate a strong physical and mental health environment, where players are engaged and motivated fostering a collaborative, positive ,and competitive culture
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the eSports revenue and operations budgets and business plans

League Relationship Management

  • Foster strong relationships with Blizzard Entertainment while developing connections and relationships with other teams and potential partners
  • Attend routine meetings with the League and communicate critical League actions and decisions to CSE’s COO and the eSports department
  • Facilitate and communicate to Blizzard Entertainment what CSE’s position is on key strategic and operational initiatives in the League

Event and Community Relations

  • Foster close relationships with key constituents within the marketplace such as community and business executives
  • As primary contact and liaison between Enthusiast Gaming, CSE and CSE partners, promote ongoing relationships and execute service agreements
  • Lead RFPs to Blizzard for league events for Vancouver and Seattle, and lead a cross-functional team responsible for execution (includes event operations, promotion, and ticket sales)

Marketing and Content

  • Lead the marketing and creative team to develop high-quality creative content through collaboration, efficient processes, and capacity and priority management
  • Lead the development and execution of a social media strategy that will grow and engage local and global fanbase specific to various social channels (Twitter, Instagram, Discord, TikTok, etc.)
  • Work with Corporate Partnerships team to establish best practices and standards for the use of organization brands within partner applications

Sponsorship and Retail

  • Collaborate with the Corporate Partnerships team on sales proposals and renewals to achieve revenue target in budget
  • Ensure Corporate Partnership obligations on time with high quality standards
  • Work with retail team in developing unique and innovative retail SKUs that will grow the brands in the eSports community and deliver against revenue targets

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-Secondary degree in business or a related discipline i.e., marketing and sales, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA strongly preferred
  • At least three years of experience in the eSports industry is an asset
  • Inspiring senior leader with proven business operations leadership experience
  • Demonstrated creativity in the development of innovative and effective sales and marketing campaigns
  • Strong conceptual and strategic skills, and ability to think outside the box
  • Assertive, action-oriented individual possessing a high degree of initiative and known to have a knack for getting things done in a disciplined manner
  • Strong creative skills and a thorough understanding of live eSports events
  • Committed to a vision of service and entertainment that will thrill fans and provide an ultimate eSports fan experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to read and interpret documents, write reports, and relate professionally to all levels of staff, management, clientele, suppliers, and partners
  • Strong level of professionalism and a proven ability to build, motivate, and lead teams
  • Excellent project management skills including planning, problem solving, collaboration and communication, as well as the ability to handle conflicting deadlines and prioritize
  • Both successful and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast paced, start-up environment and directing a young, motivated staff
  • Strong computer proficiency, specifically with Microsoft Office
