POSITION OVERVIEW: The Performance Dietitian will serve as an integral member of the Buccaneer’s Performance Team through contribution to the coordination and implementation of nutrition care services. The Performance Dietitian will report to, and work collaboratively with the Director of Performance Nutrition. The Performance Dietitian’s core responsibilities will be focused on supporting player health and nutrition to achieve optimal performance through clinical and performance nutrition services, nutrition education, operations and food service management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in collegiate or professional sports nutrition environment

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a football setting

  • Registered Dietitian

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Sports Dietetics, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology

  • Food safety certification such as ServSafe

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Performance Nutrition Services

  • Perform nutrition assessments to include an analysis of dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of athletes in the context of athletic performance and health.

  • Develop individualized and periodized nutrition plans using performance nutrition recommendations Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for performance, including post-practice energy and protein needs, hydration, recovery from illness or injury.

  • Administer pre, during, and post-performance fuel and hydration strategies.

  • Deliver individualized plate guidance at team meals.

  • Evaluate nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy; monitors use of appropriate supplementation.

  • Document nutrition services provide and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes.

Food Service Management and Nutrition Operations

  • Analyze nutritional content of foods, products, and recipes for use within fueling station and dining facility.

  • Procurement and inventory management of nutritional foods and products utilized within fueling station.

  • Conduct training table walkthroughs with culinary performance team.

  • Implementation and execution of gameday fueling strategies for home and away games.

  • Oversee ordering, delivery and set up and distribution of post-game meals.

Nutrition Education

  • Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations or demonstrations, within the facility or at events on various topics related to performance nutrition.

  • Develop resources to support nutrition initiatives and protocols.

  • Develop policies and procedures as part of department of performance nutrition team.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise department of performance nutrition intern(s)

  • Oversee inventory, ordering and stocking of nutritional products, including Gatorade account.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of nutritional needs and demands of an NFL athlete.

  • Ability to accurately measure height, and body weight.

  • Ability to accurately assess body composition results (body mass, body fat, and muscle mass)

  • Experience interpreting body composition data, including DXA reports.

  • Ability to accurately assess and evaluate energy balance.

  • Ability to administer, analyze and interpret hydration tests (Urine specific gravity, saliva based)

  • Knowledge of complementary medicine, ergogenic aids, nutritional and herbal supplements

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: e.g., NFL and NFLPA, U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), regarding banned drugs and restricted substances

  • Knowledge of food service quality and safety procedures

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication, listening, presentation, and counseling skills.

  • Self-motivation and ability to work both independently and as a team member.

  • The ability to manage competing priorities on a deadline.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and record-keeping skills.

  • Fluency with Microsoft Office, presentation platforms, and analytics software related to nutrition and performance.

  • Compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

  • An outgoing personality and professional demeanor with an opportunistic approach when challenges arise.

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and learning attitude.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Maintains dietetic registration, state licensure and continuing education requirements.

  • Stay abreast of current nutrition research related to sports nutrition, health, and performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Company is a professional, fast paced, creative business environment. Other environment conditions:

  • Extended and flexible schedule is required, including evenings, weekends, and holiday work hours; required to work all home and away games.

  • Demanding work environment in executing work on short deadlines.

  • Sitting, standing, working with hands for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift more than 40 pounds.
