
Arena Leadhand (Ice Resurfacer), Bell Sensplex
The Leadhand Facility Operator is responsible for ensuring that all ice surfaces at the Richcraft Sensplex are properly maintained and flooded, and that a high standard of safety, cleanliness and technical operation is maintained at the facility through the efficient management of the operations, groundskeepers, and custodial team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ongoing
Responsible for two (2) supervisory shifts per week on average, managing facility operations and custodial staff to ensure building objectives are met to the highest possible standards. The Leadhand may be asked to perform an extra shift from time to time as required due to Supervisor’s absence.
Responsible for operating and driving the Zamboni (ice resurfacing machine) and other motorized equipment
Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the facility and all systems. This includes, HVAC, sound, lighting, ice making and maintenance, fire protection, safety, scoreboard, communication etc.
Ensure proper building standards are maintained
Ensure the interior and exterior of the facility are properly maintained on a continuous proactive basis
Assist Program Coordinator with requests, and provide excellent customer service
Ensure setup requirements and technical requirements for events are executed per specifications
Responsible for ensuring that the assembly and disassembly of the facility are properly executed as dictated by programs and events
Ensure the Sensplex is in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations
Assist with annual maintenance projects
Complete minor repairs on ice surface, dasher boards, safety shields, and all other equipment.
Required to be available to patrons at all times while on duty and to interact with patrons in a professional, courteous, and responsive manner.
Cleaning of Dressing rooms, Public Washrooms and Public Areas
Shovel snow away from exit doors
Ensures all ice pads are resurfaced according to facility schedules
Periodic
Perform other duties as required from time to time at the request of the Operations Supervisor and Director of Operations
Health & Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for ensuring that all areas covered by Occupational Health & Safety Act (“OHSA”) are adhered to by themselves and Staff specifically:
Working in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations and internal policies and procedures as well as the staff they are supervising.
Using or wearing protective equipment, devises or clothing when required and ensure staff are.
Reporting any missing or defective equipment or protective device which could endanger himself or herself or another team member to the Director of Operations
Reporting any contravention of the OHSA, regulations or Senators Sports & Entertainment policies and procedures to Director of Operations
Having good knowledge of the company’s emergency evacuation policies
Training
Responsible for completing on-line training modules including, but not limited to:
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability (AODA)
AODA, the Integrated Accessibility Standard
Back & Lifting Safety Training
Ontario Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness
Ontario Worker Health & Safety Awareness
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
Violence and Harassment in the Workplace
May also be required to attend on-site training sessions as scheduled (eg. customer service).
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 2 years previous experience in recreation facility as a Zamboni driver
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Class “B” Refrigeration Operator Certificate preferred
Handyman skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical
Certification in first aid, CPR, defibrillation
Must be able to left heavy objects
Able to work independently
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
Excellent organizational skills
Must possess effective oral and written communication skills
Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
Knowledge of equipment repairs and usage
Team player
