Job Description:

Summary:

The New York Mets have a Minor League Physical Therapist position in Port Saint Lucie, Florida for the 2024 season. The Minor League Physical Therapist will assist the Minor League Reconditioning Staff with daily responsibilities such as daily treatments, training room maintenance, rehab progressions, game coverage, and any other duties as assigned by MiLB Rehab and Reconditioning Coordinator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution of a reconditioning system that efficiently and effectively returns injured MLB 40-man roster players and MiLB players to competition in a high performing, resilient condition.

  • Collaboration with the MLB Reconditioning Staff to develop the rehabilitation methodology to be utilized across the organization.

  • Collaborate with Athletic Trainers, Physicians, Mental Performance Coaches, S&C Coaches, Sports Scientists, Dieticians, Front Office, and Player Development staff to optimize player care and injury prevention.

  • Develop position specific reconditioning progressions ensuring appropriate exposure of volumes and intensities of baseball activities.

  • Participation in daily medical meetings, player rehab progressions and daily treatments, game coverage, as well as end of the day reporting.

  • Conduct frequent objective assessments and screening of healthy and injured players and utilize this information to inform player progressions and maintenance programs.

  • Daily documentation in the MLB electronic medical records system.

  • Administrative duties as assigned by the MiLB Rehab and Reconditioning Coordinator

Position Details:

  • Expected start date of December 1, 2023 (start date can be flexible)

  • The position is based out of Port St. Lucie, FL, applicant will be required to locate to the area.

Position Requirements:

  • Current PT Licensure and CPR/AED certification required

  • Successful completion of an Accredited DPT program

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Desirable Position Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in baseball (Collegiate, MiLB, MLB) and other team sports.

  • Good understanding of efficient movement mechanics (running, throwing, etc.) and strength and conditioning principles

  • Physical Therapy Residency and/or Fellowship trained or clinical specialist such as SCS or OCS

  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) & Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

  • Ability to play catch/throw with players as needed during their on-field rehab progressions.
