Payroll Analyst

Through NBA Cares, the league addresses important social issues by working with internationally recognized youth-serving organizations that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes.

Hybrid at the NBA is defined as a role that is expected to be on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Position Summary:

Within a Multi State Payroll System, process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for 720 employees for Basketball Services League (G League Players & Staff), Basketball Services Mexico Inc., NBDL Enterprise LLC, WNBA Association, WNBA Development League, NBA Canada and NBA 2K League Services Corp. Duties entail auditing information sent through the payroll interface, manually inputting information when necessary (ie. W4s, Dir Dep) including additional pay outside of the typical bi-weekly, or semi-monthly salary payments.

Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure accuracy of data. Audit data pay data to keep compliant with Tax Labor Laws. Balance all payrolls on a biweekly/semi-monthly basis. Create generic interfaces for data and pay imports as well as transmitting data to payroll vendors. Run payroll detail reports upon request from various NBA departments including assisting with Annual Workers Compensation Audit and payroll year end data audit review.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Process Bi-Weekly & Semi-monthly payrolls, and special payruns, for Basketball Services League (G League Players & Staff), Basketball Services Mexico Inc., NBDL Enterprise LLC, WNBA Association, WNBA Development League, NBA Canada and NBA 2K League Services Corp

  • Add any manual adjustments to payroll, such as benefits deductions provided by the benefits department

  • Balance the payroll before, and after, transmission to payroll vendor to ensure the accuracy of the payments

  • Act as the back up for co-workers out of office: including but not limited to Fidelity 401K uploads and wires, Employee Verifications, W4/Direct Deposit validation, etc.

  • Audit HR interface to check for errors or incomplete information. If an error is found, take the steps necessary to research the issue, find a solution while coordinating with HR, and correct the errors in the payroll system to ensure the payroll for each employee is accurate, and compliant to federal tax laws

  • Act as resource to HR on tax structure of NBA entities, Pay groups in each NBA entity, work location matters, and international coaches

  • Calculate overpayments and coordinate with benefits and Human Resources on repayment to the company. When necessary, contact banking institution on deletions, reversals, and voids. Once confirmation is received (2 week min) and depending on the situation process a void, an update or a replacement.

  • Copy all files for NBA entities from the payroll system to NBA drives for review, and electronic filing

  • Assists 3rd party Auditors in payroll related matters. Compile all audit support to be given to 3rd party auditor while maintaining employee confidentiality. Receive 3rd party check (from employee or tax agency) and deliver the check, along with the correct coding the Accounts Receivable to be deposited

  • Act as a resource to financial analysts to clarify any payroll related expense or journal entry

  • Run ad hoc reports for various NBA departments on payroll data

  • Coordinate with Risk Management to run Annual Workers Compensation reports. Consolidate the reports into the Annual Workers Compensation Report to be subject to audit and submitted to a 3rd party audit committee by Risk Management

  • Assist in Year-End Audit process including W-2 issuance, T4s including the processing of W-2 Corrections

  • Quarterly Audits of payroll system to ensure information is correct and employees are accurately withheld upon

  • Review unemployment rate notices to monitor for changes to minimize the number of quarterly adjustments

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 3 years working wihtin Payroll

  • General knowledge of ADP EV6 or other payroll systems

  • Computer and math skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines

Education:

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred
