
Security Manager, Overnight
Job Purpose: This individual is responsible for providing the administrative and operational oversight of the overnight activities of the Arena Department of Public Safety. This includes the hiring, supervising, and training of the full-time and part-time armed and unarmed overnight staff members. The Public Safety Manager assists the Director of Public Safety with the day-to-day security operations and functions for Bridgestone Arena and the Nashville Predators. The Manager will be responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of the 3rd shift Public Safety Supervisors and Officers. This position will work closely with the Operations Overnight Manager in ensuring the overall safety of staff and the building.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
Manages the work of the 3rd shift Public Safety Officers and Supervisors.
Responsible for the hiring, training and scheduling of overnight officers and supervisors and any temporary or subcontract labor needed for special assignments as required for safe and efficient operation.
Motivates staff and maintains a positive and productive work environment and ensures this intent is communicated and adhered to by all subordinates.
Evaluates staff, including appraising productivity, working with employees to correct deficiencies, making recommendations as to the interviewing, hiring, firing and advancement promotion or any other change of status of employee under the Public Safety Manager.
Ensures that staffing levels are appropriate during 24/7 operations and events. Ensure that staffing resources are properly briefed, deployed and redeployed as necessary.
Manages staff time records by using a computerized time and attendance system.
Provides training and event night oversight for the personnel assigned to the arena’s security base.
Provides oversight of security operations for all arena employees serving in overnight capacities.
Assists in the arena event planning process and coordinate operations with all arena departments and contractors.
Prepares staff documents including staff deployment plans, event sign-ups, event notes, schedules, etc.
Reviews event documentation and follow-up on various issues including Shift Logs and Tour Logs.
Reviews, audits and provides follow up of all Incident Reports, ensuring all reports are forwarded to the Legal Department in a timely manner.
Monitors and reports on a continual basis all conditions which create security or safety hazards on company property; also, makes recommendations regarding prevention techniques, devices or equipment that would correct the hazard.
Manages an inventory of security-related items such as handheld metal detectors, cameras, radios, keys and electronic card readers.
Will be called upon to work events and be assigned as a Department Manager on Duty.
Hours to fluctuate but in general, non-event assignment will be from 9pm-6am. Event hours will vary.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to demonstrate physical and psychological fitness.
Knowledge of law enforcement, criminal law and security.
Ability to manage tactical/emergency responses.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Able to obtain State of Tennessee Security Officer/Guard License. Ability to obtain Armed Guard License.
Four (4) year college degree preferred.
Four (4) hours (unarmed security) training by state certified trainer.
Suitable background & fingerprint check by FBI, TBI, and Metro Police.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience supervising a group of Event Staff/Security Staff required (stadium, arena, convention center, performing arts facility).
Strong, advanced technical skills in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) required.
Proficiency in writing detailed Incident Reports.
Experience with time management systems, 24/7 Software Incident Management Software, and 24-hour video surveillance systems preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally.
Ability to simultaneously manage a high level of detail across multiple projects.
Ability to demonstrate flexibility and quickly adapt to changes while maintaining high levels of productivity and effectiveness under pressure.
Ability to work well within a team environment, offering assistance and support to team members whenever necessary.
Essential Physical Functions:
Ability to work long and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
Required to work long hours on event nights.
Ability to work in extreme temperature changes from ice arena to outdoors in inclement weather.
Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 8 hours per day.
Ability to carry, move, bend, kneel and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time.
Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust and dirt.
Ability to wear face mask and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for long periods of time.
