Operations Intern

Purpose of the Role:

An exciting opportunity for a 1-year intern within McLaren Racing Formula One team. The role will be based with Operations with the focus being Continuous Improvement. Reporting to the Reliability & Continuous Improvement Lead, you will develop and maintain operational procedures and methods using digital tools within Mclaren Racing.

  • Working collaboratively between all areas of McLaren Racing Operations, you will support with analysing and evolving operational continuous improvement; creating, developing and implementing operational improvement projects as directed.

  • Contribute to, lead, and deliver complete improvement projects at our manufacturing sites and to rectify risk, reliability, and performance hurdles.

  • Consistently assessing and reporting on time, cost, and future continuous improvement projects.

  • Develop new methods and practices to improve operational efficiency, process flow and control within MTC and into trackside.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Co-ordinate, facilitate and deliver improvement projects within the F1 Operations function.

  • Deliver consistent results to ensure efficiency and consistency across departments.

  • Support reducing time taken for all operational tasks, minimising risk through consistent process and efficiency gains.

  • Support operational fault resolution, assessment, and actioning.

  • Evaluate ideal efficiency goals and deliver methods of meeting these, to reduce risk, increase throughput and promote consistency, cost saving and overall operational reliability.

  • Build relationships across all teams and areas of influence.

  • Establish a methodology for highlighting risk factors ahead of them happening.

  • Simulation of potential operational failures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Currently studying towards a Masters or bachelor’s degree in an engineering or computer science discipline, ideally returning to University after the internship to complete your studies.

  • Some experience of working within a motorsport or team environment.

  • Practical mindset with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Able to develop, participate and thrived in a team-orientated environment.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Understanding of SQL and creating data visualisations also beneficial.
