Payroll & Benefits Manager

As a Payroll and Benefits Manager, you will play a critical role in managing and coordinating payroll and benefits administration for the Los Angeles Chargers Football Company. Your mission is to ensure accurate and timely payroll and benefits processing while adhering to policies, regulations, and compliance requirements. In addition, your goal will be to streamline and optimize the payroll and benefits process, fostering a culture of excellence and transparency while maintaining the confidentiality of employee information.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of weekly, and semi-monthly multijurisdictional payrolls for up to 500 employees.

  • Provide timely and accurate employee/employer tax-related reports, tax deposits/filings, and general ledger.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, payroll tax laws, labor contracts, garnishment regulations, and employee benefits laws in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.

  • Responsible for monitoring, updating, and testing payroll and timekeeping software systems, upgrades, patches, and program changes. Subject Matter Expert for DayForce system.

  • Responsible for all payroll reporting to internal and external auditors.

  • Managing and providing coaching to the Payroll Coordinator and Benefits Specialist.

  • Manages company employee benefits programs such as medical, dental, retirement, life insurance, disability, flexible spending, and others.

  • Assists with broker and carrier selection, plan design decisions, and any changes in benefit offerings.

  • Facilitates collaboration on benefit plan design with senior leadership to provide cost savings while providing a comprehensive benefits package to Associates.

  • Plan, manage, and execute to completion of company-sponsored annual benefits open enrollment process, including the design of a plan to educate Associates on benefit offerings and policies. Advises and counsels management and employees on benefits and responds to inquiries.

  • Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefits documentation such as original and amended plan SPDs, benefits agreements, and insurance policies.

  • Instruct insurance carriers and other administrative agencies outside the organization to effect changes in the benefits program. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance.

  • Manages COBRA, ACA & PPACA processes to ensure compliance with current regulations. Conducts routine audits of ACA offerings and enrollments.

  • The primary point of contact for all benefits and payroll compliance and administration

  • Creating and assuring compliance with ACA requirements and state/country-specific requirements

  • Maintaining company affirmative action programs and EEO-1 reporting and applicant tracking

  • Auditing deductions monthly against carrier invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance with section 125 and ACA reporting.

  • Preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.

  • Excellent knowledge of payroll software.

  • Familiarity with labor legislation and multi-state federal tax laws.

  • Knowledge of ACA requirements, state/country-specific requirements, policies, and regulations

  • Knowledge of state-level benefit platforms and expertise in setting up new states for companies.

  • With knowledge of accounting principles and practices, you'll work closely with our Finance team

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success with cross-functional partners.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • CPP Preferred

  • Experience with top payroll providers, benefits brokers, and related systems

  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing payroll and benefits.
