What to be excited for in this role:

  • Opportunity to be part of a collaborative and experienced finance department that values continuous improvement and the contributions of its team members.

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable/cash receipts, and certain elements of purchasing for the Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose, and the related team’s practice facility.

  • Participate in cash management of the operations for Manitoba Moose and the hockey team’s practice facility, including correspondence with the bank.

  • Prepare and analyze departmental financial reporting to assist other functional areas in managing and controlling financial activity.

  • Observe, refine, make suggestions, and implement business systems that improve internal controls, efficiency, simplicity and operating/financial performance.

  • Assist in the budgeting process.

  • Perform monthly and other periodic reconciliations/supporting schedules and journal entries, commensurate with monthly financial statement preparation.

  • Ensure compliance with government legislation with regards to taxation including but not limited to Goods and Services Tax, Harmonized Sales Tax and Provincial Sales Tax.

  • Act as liaison for insurance renewals and inquiries in coordination with VP Finance & CFO, external insurance broker and insurers.

  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting requests.

  • Perform other duties as required to support the finance function.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What we need from you:

  • Professional accounting designation.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior level accounting position, supervising others.

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor employees.

  • Innovative problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to accuracy, detail, and prudent financial management.

  • Flexibility to work at both our downtown office location and the hockey teams’ practice facility.

  • Valid class five driver’s license and access to vehicle (as duties require presence at other venues).

  • Proven ability to prioritize competing demands in a diverse and evolving environment.

  • Superior skills in the use of pc-based tools, accounting software and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Responsible team member, with capacity to meet objectives and required timelines. Varying work volumes throughout the year will require the position to be a self-starter with managing routine and non-routine tasks.
