Canucks Sports & Entertainment is seeking a writer with a background in sports journalism to create team and player-driven content for web, mobile, and social media. The incumbent will partner closely with the Marketing department to identify story opportunities, conduct research, and collaborate to produce diverse forms of content.

This role focuses on:

  • Participating in weekly editorial scrum and daily stand-ups to identify key team and player narratives

  • Attending all practices and home games serving as an in-house member of the press

  • Attending select road trips and Abbotsford Canucks games as determined by manager

  • Creating 3-5 pieces of content per week across different formats and channels including feature articles on the website that detail team and/or player development, online player and prospect features and profiles, email newsletters, and articles highlighting community initiatives (e.g., Truth and Reconciliation, Diwali Night, Youth Hockey, etc.)

  • Utilizing the NHL’s content management system to post content across platforms

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • A directly related post-secondary degree or diploma and two years of experience in sports or entertainment journalism

  • Excellent written fundamentals across ideation, research, and composition; style that leans into fun, accessible prose

  • Demonstrated ability to go beyond “covering” a sport to telling human interest stories

  • Good understanding of multi-cultural and multi-generational audiences with keen interest in popular culture

  • Experience working within various productivity and content management systems

  • Proven track record of managing projects on-time in a fast-paced environment

YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE:

  • Photography and Photoshop experience

  • Ability to speak Russian, Swedish or French
