The Director, Social Media will be responsible for crafting and implementing a social media strategy that drives industry-leading engagement and follower growth for properties within the Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) portfolio: Vancouver Canucks, Rogers Arena, Vancouver Warriors, Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver Titans, and Seattle Surge.

The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day execution against brand and marketing messaging, all content including game and team coverage, partner content platforms, youth and community initiatives, and audience growth initiatives. The Director will work directly with business leads across Marketing, Content, Communications, Hockey Operations, Sales, Corporate Partnerships, and Community Engagement on business initiatives.

This role will focus on:

  • Collaborating with business leaders across the organization to set objectives, metrics, strategy, and ongoing recommendations for audience growth, diversification, and engagement for all properties

  • Building, managing, and executing annual social and editorial strategy specific to each platform (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok), including campaign development, content guidance, publishing, tone of voice, and community management

  • Leading and mentoring a talented team of publishers and content creators across CSE properties, while serving as a social media expert and thought leader across the company

  • Creating a system for identifying, briefing, and tracking content that inspires creative innovation while also enabling cultural relevance and speed-to-market

  • Quarterbacking the live coverage of all Vancouver Canucks games and major events while providing supporting guidance for coverage of other live events across the portfolio

  • Identifying and creating social media driven revenue opportunities across Sales, Corporate Partnerships, Retail, and Community Engagement initiatives

  • Regularly auditing and sharing best-in-class content across sports industry to serve as inspiration for the organization

  • Owning weekly and monthly digital reporting across social channels, working closely with analytics teams to pull results and analyze data to create strategies and tactics for continual audience engagement and growth

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • 10+ years’ experience in sports team or entertainment industry social media strategy and execution

  • Demonstrated experience leading creative and high performing teams

  • Full proficiency in social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube with natural curiosity and willingness to pick up emerging platforms

  • Deep understanding of integrated marketing functions and strong experience working in a matrixed organization with proven ability to translate digital initiatives across departments

  • Strong ability to organize and lead an efficient social media operating system and to transition from strategic planning to creative briefs to asset development and trafficking

  • Strong cultural awareness, understanding, and expertise enabling the creation of diverse and inclusive content

  • Highly collaborative and innovative creative problem solving abilities coupled with ability to spot and apply current trends

  • Flexibility to travel as required (approximately 5-10% of the time)

  • Adaptable, flexible, creative, insightful, and innovative personality that constantly looks for new ideas and ways of doing things

  • Ability to work well under tight timelines and to remain positive and calm under pressure

  • Receptive to new ideas and approaches, ability to adapt well to change
