Position Description

We are looking for a PHP / Javascript Developer proficient in Javascript libraries such as D3.js to collaborate on developing innovative web applications targeted at U.S. Soccer’s internal stakeholders. Reporting to the Director, Sporting Analytics, this person will be responsible for developing internal platforms that support the daily operation of multiple departments in data collection, management, and visualization.

Qualified candidates must have a working knowledge of PHP and various JavaScript libraries such as D3.js and a basic understanding of SQL. Your duties will include developing internal web applications, maintaining applications with AWS storage, database, and development tools, and designing and integrating data visualizations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build web applications with web development best practices

  • Build data visualizations using Javascript libraries such as D3.js

  • Work with data engineers to integrate UI components with APIs and databases

  • Debug errors, troubleshoot issues and perform routine performance optimizations

  • Write high-quality, scalable, and reusable code

  • Stay plugged into emerging technologies and industry trends

  • Collaborate with the Sporting Analytics team to design and develop data visualization dashboards

  • Identify, test, and propose improvements to the existing infrastructure for maintainability and scalability and to accelerate functionality and performance

  • Contribute to building a culture of high-performing engineers

  • Commitment to quality and timely delivery of tasks

  • Write fast and performant database queries

  • Serve as subject matter expert in architecture design and code reviews

  • Provide technical vetting for potential SaaS applications being considered in a “build vs. buy” scenario

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience developing cross-browser-compatible web applications and/or data visualizations PHP, JavaScript and D3.js

  • Experience maintaining applications with AWS storage, database, and development tools

  • Proficiency with PHP, JavaScript, and JavaScript libraries such as jQuery, Bootstrap, and D3

  • Experience with cross-browser compatibility testing

  • Understanding of RESTful APIs

  • Familiarity with Git or a similar version control system

  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with a professional demeanor

  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks based on impact

  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments

  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission

  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)

  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Passion for soccer

  • Bilingual (English, Spanish or other)

  • Thorough institutional knowledge of U.S. Soccer’s mission, goals, technical plan, policies, practices, and procedures

  • Previous experience with a club or national team
