Position Overview

The Indirect Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting the Tax team and other Finance & Accounting personnel with tax compliance and reporting, along with independent contractor tax withholding on a state, federal and international level in accordance with prescribed company policies, procedures, programs, and practices.

Essential Functions

  • Gathers data and assists with filing various tax returns monthly, quarterly and annually ensuring that all appropriate adjustments and exemptions are claimed and that the company’s tax liability is accurately determined.

  • Reviews transactional data, reconciles workbooks computations, and prepares and records adjusting journal entries related to indirect tax accruals on a monthly basis.

  • Assists with registration of and payment of various taxes including ticket, broadcast, PPV, sales tax, VAT, athlete, entertainer and contractor tax withholding and/ or waivers.

  • Assists with filing of pre-fight applications for athlete and or contractor tax withholding or waiver forms and tax reductions.

  • Assists with determination of athlete, contractor and officials’ payment deductions and tax withholding requirements for domestic events and some international events.

  • Assists with preparation of federal and state tax reporting on Forms 1099 and 1042-s and other equivalent foreign country tax forms.

  • Assists with monthly processing and mailing of various city, state and foreign country estimated tax payments and returns.

  • Assists with completing and collecting exemption and resale certificates.

  • Responds to email queries from fighters or their representatives in a timely manner.

  • Maintains indirect tax calendar to ensure all filings are timely.

  • Assists with research of various federal, state, municipal and foreign taxes.

  • Computes foreign currency translation calculations for tax withholding.

  • Assists Senior Tax Manager to maintain and update tax levies and garnishment files. Advises on garnishment requirements prior to each event.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • 3+ years of accounting experience preferred.

  • Moderate/Advanced Microsoft Office experience, emphasis on Excel skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Zuffa team members and Management in both written and verbal form.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments according to due dates and supervisors’ requests.

  • Ability to perform tax research, problem solving and analytical analysis.

  • Ability to analyze, interpret and communicate tax related information to accounting/finance and other departments

  • Excellent organizational skills with an attention to details.

  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidential information.

  • Competency working with Microsoft Word and Outlook and ability to learn other basic computer programs.

  • Experience filing sales/use returns and withholding tax on non-residents a plus.

  • Experience with JDE and SOVOS a plus.
