Job Description

In the role of Accountant, you will be a part of MLSE’s multifaceted and engaging Finance team, responsible for supporting MLSE Foundation and MLSE LaunchPad finance functions. You will report directly to the Manager, Accounting & Administration, and work closely with MLSE Foundation and MLSE LaunchPad groups to accurately report financial results.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead general accounting duties, including preparing monthly journal entries and accruals

  • Maintain accounting schedules and reconciliations of various financial accounts

  • Perform month-end P&L analysis to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reasonability for supported departments

  • Work with MLSE Foundation and MLSE LaunchPad business operation teams to review significant account variances to plan and prior year, and understand business trends and forecasts

  • Maintain capital assets schedules

  • Assist in business planning

  • Assist with the preparation of the annual financial documents including supporting information for notes

  • Provide support in the coordination of external auditor requests

  • Complete the tax receipting process in a timely manner

  • Lead special projects and perform analysis on an ad-hoc basis

  • You are passionate about the not-for-profit sector and community engagement

  • You have earned a post graduate degree or diploma preferably in Business Administration, Finance or Commerce

  • You have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience

  • You are enrolled in or in the process of acquiring a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation

  • You are highly analytical and detail oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement

  • You have strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills

  • You possess a keen ability to build and lead effective working relationships with other departments and external partners

  • You demonstrate initiative and can work independently and as part of a team

  • You possess outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to independently lead and prioritize work activities and inputs

  • You have an outstanding understanding of MS Office and are a wizard with MS Excel!

  • Your experience with Oracle Cloud ERP and Salesforce CRM makes you an asset

  • Your knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency’s Receipting and Books and Records rules helps you stand out from the rest!
