The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for a Director of Security.

Reporting to the VP, Stadium Operations and Security, the Director, Security will provide strategic leadership, and will direct and lead the Rogers Centre Security team of both full and part-time staff. The role will oversee the development of a comprehensive venue plan for Toronto Blue Jays Baseball games, events and concerts. As a leader in the Security department, this role will play a key part in establishing and implementing a vision and execution plan for best-in class ballpark and venue security. The Director, Security will also work alongside the team to develop a complete Emergency Response plans and procedures and ensure organization is equipped and prepared for any emergency situation.


  • Lead, grow and foster a high-performing security team with objective of increasing staffing in order to decrease external needs

  • Define and provide quality security standards and execution for the organization and our fans

  • Develop process and training to ensure fans have a safe, pleasant, secure environment

  • Work in collaboration with all departments to ensure security is providing them with the necessary resources and information required in managing the game/event

  • Build relationships with police and contract security companies to ensure proper security/crowd control measures are in place, when external resources are required

  • Ensure compliance with established MLB–Best Stadium Operating Procedures to meet Safety Act requirements

  • Build revised training and orientation programs for best-in class venue security

  • Collaborate with colleagues in People Operations, develop thoughtful recruiting and talent management approaches to help attract and retain the right full-time and part-time talent.

  • Develop open and trusted relationships with leaders across the organization to enable strong collaboration and alignment of security practices to organizational priorities and direction

  • Prepare annual budgets and operating expenses and managing the approved budget/expenditures

  • Administer direction of security/safety related technology and equipment and ensure that additional evolving technological solutions are identified

  • Manage the Alcohol Management program to ensure safety and assist with the protection of Rogers Centre liquor license

  • Maintain active communication and liaison with relevant law enforcement, intelligence and emergency response officials to ensure that effective protocols are in place and communicated

  • Provide on-site direction and leadership regarding Security and safety procedures and practices which affect all occupants within the facility in order to ensure a secure and safe environment.

  • Any other duties or responsibilities assigned by senior leadership


  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, with a proven approach of continuous coaching and development

  • College or university degree preferred, or course related to security management

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic security agenda

  • Openness and willingness to invest in trusted relationships and learn from teams across the organization

  • Demonstrated success as a strategic senior manager, including personnel, project, administrative and policy management

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in event/game management is highly preferred at a sporting venue or larger venue

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current Security practices and relevant legislation, emergency procedures and crowd control techniques

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple ongoing projects.

  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, Worker's Compensation, Employment Standards, Human Rights Code, Ontario Private Security Act
