Sheffield United Football Club are currently looking for a Head of Pre-Academy Recruitment to join our Academy Recruitment department. The Head of Pre-Academy Recruitment will be responsible for leading on all aspects of Pre-Academy Recruitment including but not limited to player identification and acquisition, administration, centre management, and decision making. The successful candidate should have a real passion for the development of talent and be proactive in identifying talent within the locality.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To work alongside the Head of Pre-Academy Coaching, The Head of Local Recruitment and The Foundation Phase Lead to ensure that Sheffield United Academy has knowledge of all high potential players across its locality and therefore identifies and recruits an outstanding group of U9 players year on year.

  • To ensure that all players, their parents and their clubs have a positive experience that reflects the values of Sheffield United Football Club whenever they have contact with the Academy.

  • To help formulate a long-term recruitment plan for Pre-Academy Recruitment under the direction of the Head of Academy Recruitment and in accordance with the Academy Recruitment Strategy.

  • To ensure that all scouts operating within the area of Pre-Academy Recruitment carry out their roles and responsibilities within the parameters of the club/academy codes of conduct, set policies and procedures and in line with Youth Development rules as set out in the EPPP.

  • To organise and successfully deliver a program of Pre-Academy Centres ensuring that they operate within set PL/FA guidelines, have a safe and friendly environment, and comply with any audit or safeguarding assessments.

  • To support the coaches and centre managers within the Pre-Academy centres to make key decisions around player progression.

  • Manage the Pre-Academy Regional Groups including the games programme and training sessions.

  • To have an overall responsibility for ensuring that every scouted player between the age of 6-8 years has a program in a Pre-Academy Centre or Elite training group.

  • Support the Head of Recruitment and The Head of Local Recruitment in the trialist process inclusive of administration, registration, observation, and final decision making.

  • Support the delivery of all Recruitment initiatives such as Open Trials, bring a friend events, outreach programmes as well as internal and external tournaments.

  • To provide support to the Head of Recruitment and Head of Local Recruitment to improve links with local grassroots clubs, schools, district teams, leagues, and other providers.

  • To support the delivery of a program of scout CPD organised across the season.

  • To ensure that accurate records of all Pre-Academy scouting is up to date and live on the Academy PMA at all times.

  • • To provide performance management to the Pre-Academy Lead Scout and Pre-Academy centre coaches bi-annually.

  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.

  • To adhere to all Sheffield United Football Club's Safeguarding Policies and Procedures to foster an environment which protects from harm those defined as children and adults at risk.

  • To report any concerns of a Safeguarding nature to the relevant parties and remain fully compliant with any applicable Safeguarding checks and due diligence and recognise your responsibility to the Club's Safeguarding agenda.

  • To report any concerns of discrimination to the relevant parties and promote a welcoming and inclusive club environment for all.

  • To adhere to the Club's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies, supporting the Club to create an environment which is inclusive and all-encompassing.

Essential Criteria for the role:

  • The FA Level 2 in Talent Identification

  • The FA Level 1 in Talent Identification

  • Full Clean Driving Licence

  • A criminal record check through the Disclosure and Banning Service (DBS)

  • The FA Safeguarding Children Certificate

  • Prevent Training

  • Understanding of Academy rules and regulation compliance

Desirable Criteria for the role:

  • The FA Level 3 in advanced principles of talent identification

  • Vast football knowledge and connections from across the area of Sheffield

  • The FA UEFA B Coaching Award

  • Computer Literate
