On December 4, 2018, the NHL granted the 32nd NHL franchise to Seattle Hockey Partners. As the newest addition to the Pacific Division in the Western Conference, the team continues to prepare for its first puck drop in the 2021-2022 NHL season. In addition to the redevelopment of the New Arena at Seattle Center, Seattle Hockey Partners are consecutively building its front office headquarters, training center and three NHL regulation rinks at Northgate. This development represents not only further investment in making Seattle the epicenter of the Pacific Northwest but establishing a skating presence within the city for the first time in more than 40 years.

Position Summary:

The Facility Operator will be responsible for the Kraken Training Center Ice and Facility Maintenance. This position is responsible for driving and maintaining the Zamboni and Ice edger machines as well as opening and/or closing the building, maintaining cleanliness of locker, restrooms and public areas and sharping rental skates. Works with the Operations Director and Operations Manager to ensure a great experience for all patrons.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Ice Maintenance:

  • Maintains strict Ice Schedule

  • Keeps constant records and logs for, but not limited to, Compressors, Ice Temperature, and Ice thickness

  • Responsible for flooding, edging, shaving/building ice service as scheduled by Operations Manager

  • Helps keep back-of-house areas clean and organized so the Zamboni has access on/off the ice.

  • Assure all gates are closed before resurfacing operations

  • Cleaning of glass and dashers, when possible, inside and out

  • Assist in routine maintenance program of the Zamboni and ice edger

Rink Maintenance:

  • Take the lead on the installation of the sub-floor and picking up when needed

  • Pick up trash, sweep and mop floors, vacuum as needed

  • Empty trash bins inside/outside rink and ensure restrooms and public areas are tidy

  • Spot cleaning of glass when possible

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Have strong mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to use independent judgment in the performance of duties when required

  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, customers, vendors, and others using the Kraken Training Center

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.

  • Punctuality and reliability are important in this sometimes fast-paced environment. Ice schedule MUST be kept

  • Basic reading and math skills equivalent to HS diploma

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to learn maintenance skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Valid Driver's license and satisfactory driving record

  • Successful completion of all required pre-employment background checks

  • Majority of days spent standing or walking

  • Work conditions include exposure to cold, heat and noise

  • Climbing stairs, ladders and other objects is often required, along with the need to bend kneel and reach

  • Frequent bending, lifting 50 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs
