The San Francisco Giants Minor League Dietitian will assist the Coordinator of Minor League Nutrition with providing industry leading nutritional services to Giants athletes. This role will involve leveraging the latest evidence-based research and best practices to educate athletes on optimizing performance, rehabilitation from injury by using clinical and sport expertise, assist in the continued development of a leading culinary program and ensure proper food safety and standards. They will be working out of the San Francisco Giants state of the art Papago Minor League Complex primarily supporting ACL athletes and assisting other affiliates as assigned.

Position Responsibilities:

Performance Nutrition and Nutrition Education:

  • Implement San Francisco Giants Nutrition philosophies and standards

  • Assist MiLB Coordinator w/ Rehab group

  • Managing Performance Fueling Station: stocking of supplements, tracking inventory, cleaning, organization and other duties as necessary

  • Assist in creating, refining and implementing nutritional injury protocols.

  • Assist with creating or updating nutrition protocols, supplements, hydration and any others as necessary.

  • Provide nutritional support and education to ACL teams and collaborate with DR Academy to distribute regular education and support: document nutrition education/interactions with ongoing monitoring/follow-up for evaluation of interventions of players as needed

  • Assess and analyze dietary habits, body composition, and energy balance of players with regards to their athletic performance and health

  • Conduct nutrition consultations to provide individualized nutrition strategies for players based on needs and/or goals. Maintain nutrition care plans

  • Potential travel to each affiliate 1-2x per season along with DR Academy to provide nutritional support and education, providing written reports recapping travel

  • Develop education materials, deliver nutrition-specific presentations/activities, and provide grocery store tours

  • Create and maintain a social media presence as a means of education to staff and players

  • Stay up to date on scientific research and trends with regards to sports and medical nutrition.

  • Collaborate with other performance staff on player health and wellness, including individual player plans

  • Maintain effective communication regarding athlete nutrition with the Minor League Medical Staff, Director of Performance Nutrition, Minor League Nutrition Coordinator, physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches and athletic trainers

  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Minor League Nutrition

Food Service and Menu Development:

  • Review and collaborate with the Catering Coordinator to refine affiliate menus for MiLB Coordinator approval

  • Assist the Minor League Nutrition Coordinator with menu development and review for AZ and DR Academy

  • Collaborate with culinary team for cooking demos, performance plate displays, dining area education and other functions as needed

Education/Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, food science, sports nutrition or related expertise required.

  • Master's degree in nutrition, food science, or exercise physiology preferred.

  • Registered Dietitian (RD or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)

  • Certification/Licensure as required by state of practice

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Sports Dietitian within a professional, private, or collegiate program preferred.

  • Experience in professional or collegiate baseball a plus

  • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred.

  • Knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy, ergogenic aids, and supplementation

  • Knowledge of food service quality and safety practices.

  • Compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and counseling skills.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and record keeping skills.

  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Self-motivator, optimistic, driven and eager to develop, ability to take and implement constructive feedback, ability work independently as well as within a group

  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus

  • Availability in the off-season for camps and rehab

  • Hours include nights, weekends, and some holidays
