The San Francisco Giants are seeking an Applied Sports Scientist to join the Baseball Operations team. This role will have primary responsibility for the development and implementation of the applied sports science program for the Giants’ organization.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prioritize current and new sports science initiatives to maximize impact on player performance, health, and evaluation.

  • Achieve sports science goals by working in close collaboration with medical department colleagues from across the organization, including athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, physical therapists, nutritionists, and mental skills/health personnel.

  • Implement daily and periodic testing programs to capture relevant data.

  • Develop data-driven training and recovery programs consistent with individual player plans.

  • Collaborate with coaching and medical staff to guide individual and overall team workload and physical development.

  • Ensure consistency and quality across the organization by monitoring and coordinating sports science implementation.

  • Collaborate with R&D to analyze performance and injury data to generate insights that inform sports science programs.

  • Collaborate with Engineering to develop reports and tools to scale sports science recommendations across the organization.

  • Help evaluate new technologies related to sports science and stay current on leading-edge sports science literature and concepts.

  • Educate staff and players on critical sports science subjects.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires a Bachelor's/Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in sports science-related field (e.g. Exercise Science, Sports Science/Kinesiology/Biomechanics). Ph.D. preferred.

  • Must have strong background in sports science, strength and conditioning, and physiology. NSCA – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist/Certified Performance and Sports Scientist preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience applying sports science at the professional or collegiate level.

  • Ability to both think/plan strategically and manage/execute at the operational level.

  • Strong background in data management/statistical analytics.

  • Proficient in programming languages preferred.

  • Exceptional relationship/rapport building skills, including ability to work effectively with wide range of departments, seniority levels, and personalities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Position is based in Scottsdale, AZ and will require regular in-season travel to San Francisco, CA and minor league affiliates.

  • Spanish speaking a plus.
