The Player Care Manager will assist all players and their families with transition into the Rose City and establish their new lives in the new market. This individual will help facilitate all day-to-day administration as it relates to player care, player onboarding and family care. This role is vital to the transition of the player as it provides them full support to concentrate solely on their performance on the pitch. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Soccer Operations, Director of Development Operations and Special Assistant to the Head Coach. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. GENERIC DUTIES

  • Work closely with all players but always maintain a professional relationship

  • Ensure player and families are integrated into the community

  • Communicate key information to and from players

  • Help new players acclimate to Portland including aiding in transportation needs, etc.

  • Assist in all player/trialist needs off field

  • Special projects as assigned by the GM, AGM, Sr. Dir, Soccer Ops and Dir, Development Operations


  • Oversee all administrative functions involving player relocation and establishment with the Club (First Team and Reserve Team)

  • Assist with paperwork and communication with MLS and MLS NEXT PRO

  • Act as the provider for or conduit to resources needed by players including relocation planning and realization, temporary and long-term housing, moving, shipping and transportation.

  • Assist in securing flights, transportation, etc.

  • Assist in securing hotel rooms

  • Assisting in lifestyle adjustments

  • Housing/apartment searches

  • Opening bank accounts

  • Obtaining social security cards

  • Cell phones, state ID, etc.

  • Help newly acquired players and their families move into market.

  • Reporting and keeping track of English classes for the athletes, their progress and arranging tutors if necessary.

  • Assisting to acquire necessary visas for incoming players and their families

  • Help former players move out of market at completion of season

  • Provide weekly updates with onboarding checklist throughout the new player transition into market.

  • Securing flights, transportation, etc.

  • Logistical support for closing out life in market, including but not limited to transition of housing situations, moving of household goods, and ending of car leases.

  • Track college players and trialists visits coming into market

  • Assist with their lodging, transportation, meals, etc.

  • Assist in day-to-day administration of player needs, including

  • Collecting and filing reimbursement documentation for players

  • Player loans

  • Assisting in game-day administration for players and their families for home game.

  • Tracking and keeping a database of relocation spend, as well as submitting the report to the league.

  • Organization of player and family databases and information

  • Enter and monitor player files through "Workday" (MLS Asset Management System)

  • Creation of player files to monitor information that is pertinent to the club

  • Oversee payroll, benefits, I9, W4, and MLS scheduled information with interfaces to the MLS.

  • Oversee payroll, benefits, I9, W4, and MLS scheduled information with interfaces to the Portland Timbers for the MLS NEXT PRO players.

  • Build out of the player care network and continued communication with current network

  • Schools, housing, language support, cars

  • Oversee family room and care for player families on matchday.

  • Act as visiting team locker room assistant for MLS teams when in home market

  • Create a timeline for players/families to become self-sufficient within the community

  • Help facilitate English Lessons and use every opportunity to support the learning process

  • Reinforce club culture, roles, and expectations

  • Assist with player transportation when requested by supervisor

  • Understand importance of role to club culture and its role in team success

  • Be on call for situations that require immediate attention

  • Assist with paperwork and communication with MLS and MLS Next Pro.

  • Needs to be available for all MLS Home matches.

  • Assisting on credentials for the MLS Matches

  • Spending time with players families (as warranted) to ensure seamless transition into market


  • Accountable and timely

  • Attention to detail

  • Fluent in Spanish, both written and orally

  • Basic proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs

  • Holds a current and valid United States Driver’s License

  • Support the Timbers foundation and community initiatives
