We are seeking a talented and experienced individual to join our Sports and Entertainment Services (SES) as the new Director of Engineering. This role will be responsible for the oversight of the physical plant including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, lighting, ice making system, computer controls, and (EMS) fire and life safety systems. This position is also responsible for the departmental budget, along with the development and implementation of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all systems of oversight.

What You Will Do:

  • Leads and manages the Engineering personnel to include areas such as task assignment, professional development, functional cross-training, and disciplinary action as needed

  • Evaluates current installations for life expectancy, repair, and replacement; maintains knowledge of changes in technology and trends for Engineering systems

  • Evaluates equipment and determines, develops, and manages project budgets and oversees system upgrades for the venue

  • Develops policy and training programs for engineers and technicians.

  • Oversees organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing daily tasks to ensure tasks are completed satisfactorily

  • Develops and implements updates to work log program

    • Review and evaluation of all work logs on a routine basis to ensure proper and timely recording of work activity

    • Analyzes logs for emerging trends indicating problems or concerns

    • Delegation of tasks to the appropriate personnel for problem resolution

  • Consults and collaborates with other departments and with the teams to resolve problems and assists in their areas of need

  • Oversees the development and adherence to documented Standard Operating Procedures

  • Contributes to providing information to visiting technicians regarding the building infrastructure

  • Contributes to the creation of and adherence to the annual department budget

  • Participates in and facilitates meetings involving departmental presentations to organizational personnel, executive leadership, and external stakeholders

  • Assists in providing information and reports for the development of capital budgets.

    • This includes, but is not limited to, short-term and long-term planning of maintenance, facility improvement, and cost reduction proposals both inside and outside of the core Engineering department scope

What We Need From Our Director:

  • Advanced knowledge of all building systems, operation and maintenance in a sports arena or stadium

  • Must be an effective communicator and interact well with senior management, other departments, vendors and guests

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite

  • Thorough knowledge of all building systems including: electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, fire protection, building/energy management systems, building and electrical codes

  • Ability to read blueprints and complex system schematics

  • Ability to trouble-shoot system level problems and determine and execute solutions

  • Ability to take the lead and initiate solutions regarding mission critical system breaks or outages

  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and working techniques

  • Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license and meet company vehicle driving standards

Experience / Education Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of Engineering systems in a multi-use facility required; Engineering experience in a sports arena highly preferred

  • 2+ years of experience supervising direct reports preferred

  • High school diploma, technical school training, or equivalent experience required

  • This role will require extended periods of time working in front of a computer screen
