A quick summary about the Event AV Technician Graduate Associate:

The Event AV Technician Graduate Associate’s overall role is to support operations of Broadcast Technology and Services department for Amway Center events and other facilities within the Orlando Magic business. The primary role is that of providing technical support of Amway Center events including but not limited to Orlando Magic, Solar Bears Hockey, concerts, and corporate hospitality events. The Event AV Tech GA follows all protocols and procedures for properly executing his/her role related to a scheduled event.

What the Event AV Technician Graduate Associate will be responsible for:

  • Setup and strike all sizes of event setups including areas in Audio, Video, Lighting, COM Communications and Daktronics LED equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot various types of A/V setups.

  • Operate small audio consoles and associated outboard gear from 4 to 48 channels. Experience with Yamaha digital consoles is a plus.

  • Execute small and large corporate conference setups throughout the venue.

  • Provide technical support to our Premium Services Staff and their Clients on event and Non-event days.

  • Operate complex Creston control systems.

  • Operate PC and Mac platforms with video projection systems.

  • Assist Media and NBA officials with any A/V requests.

  • Assemble and operate portable audio systems.

  • Manage and maintain source control devices and custom control systems.

  • Manage cable installation & terminate a wide range of audiovisual and data connectors.

  • Build equipment racks and dress all cabling in a professional manner.

  • Ability to work around heights over 100 FT.

  • Operate and setup spotlights and have basic knowledge of lighting equipment.

  • Record and maintain sufficient inventory of bulbs, batteries, cables, power supplies, etc.

  • Reporting any equipment failure.

  • Perform light maintenance / repair and work with vendors as required.

  • Additional misc responsibilities may include maintaining and troubleshooting of AV equipment installed at Amway Center, Advent Health Training Center, Lakeland Magic/RP Funding Center, Orlando Magic offices at CNL Tower as it pertains to supporting a live event, corporate event, conference meeting or other need.

  • All other duties as assigned.

What the Event AV Technician Graduate Associate needs to have:

  • Post Grad (recent college graduates within 24 months of graduation) or graduate-level college students required.

  • 2 Year College Degree or equivalent AV work experience

  • Exhibit excellent knowledge of live audio principles, microphones and sound re-enforcement required.

  • A minimum of 2 years of audio experience preferred.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of audio and video signal flow as pertaining to live sports production preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of electricity as it pertains to event setups and all ancillary equipment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other related computer skills required.

  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.

  • Ability to work as a member of a fast-paced and cross-functional team

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.

  • Strong teamwork and collaborations skills required.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem solver.

  • Presents self in a professional manner and has the ability to interact with all levels of the organization as well as outside vendors

  • Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on the changing priorities of the department.

Relocation Information:

  • Relocation and housing expenses are the responsibility of the Graduate Associate (Please note that while we have a hybrid work model, this does require you to live and work out of the Orlando, Florida area.)

  • Reliable transportation is also needed

Working Hours:

  • M-F, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

  • Comfortable working in a remote office setting (home and office)

  • Most Associates work all game nights (44 home games + postseason) including weekends and holidays

Physical requirements

Position involves physical activity – lifting 50(LBS), standing or sitting for long periods of time, extensive walking, and working in elevated catwalks (excess of 100’).
