The New York Mets are seeking a highly motivated and talented cook to join our Culinary Staff. The Kitchen Assistant will work directly with the Executive Chef, Sous chef and MLB Performance Nutrition Coordinator to offer the highest quality athletic performance cuisine to the players and staff of the New York Mets Baseball team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Follow, execute, and assist in the planning of recipes, procedures, and plate-ups related to food production in a timely fashion.

  • Stocking and cleaning of coolers, refrigerators, snacks, coffee machines, and maintenance of the front of the house dining area.

  • Ability to work towards the mastery of all stations in the kitchen, as well as all recipes, presentations, and setups.

  • Cold Station, salad station, sandwich station, action stations, preparation and execution.

  • Ensure proper presentation by garnishing dishes before they are served.

  • Set up hot line in time for service and refilling water levels of wells.

  • Execute the assigned opening and closing duties.

  • Ensure all food production and its coordination with the meal and serving hours, so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.

  • Recognize supplies required for menus/production and ensure that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.

  • Maintain assigned workstation in a safe and sanitary condition, which includes washing pots and pans.

  • Keep refrigerators and dry good shelves clean and organized. Ensure accurate labeling, dating, and rotating (using the FIFO method) of all raw and prepared food products.

  • Assist with inventory management and tracking throughout the daily operation, as well as, at designated intervals.

  • Monitor stock and assist in the placement of orders when there are shortages.

  • Maintain a sterile kitchen as well as the ability to break down and reset all kitchen equipment.


  • Degree in culinary nutrition, culinary arts, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a cook in a sports performance facility or restaurant.

  • Experience with various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, roasting, sautéing, etc.)

  • Experience is using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.

  • Excellent customer service.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Must be able to work unconventional hours.

  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • A positive, friendly personality with a passion for sports performance.

  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
